Ganling is located in Liangshan, 3 kilometers north of Ganxian County, Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province. It is the mausoleum of Tang Gaozong Li Zhi (reigned from 649 to 683) and Wu Zetian (reigned from 690 to 705). It is located about 87 kilometers northwest of Chang 'an (now Xi City), the capital of the Tang Dynasty. It is the only tomb among the eighteen tombs in the Tang Dynasty that has not been stolen, and it is also the only queen's tomb. The mausoleum was built in the first year of Tang Guangzhai (684) and the second year of Shenlong (706), with mountains as the mausoleum. Ganling is most famous for its grand cemetery planning and a large number of Tang Dynasty stone carvings on the surface. In addition to the main tomb, there are seventeen small tombs buried in Ganling with other royal family members and heroes. Ganling is the best preserved of the eighteen tombs in the Tang Dynasty. By 20 13, only five burial tombs were excavated, from which a large number of cultural relics were unearthed.
