In order to further improve operational efficiency, Hongkong Post has installed a new "mechanical letter sorting system" in stages since the beginning of 2008, and put it into full operation in June 2009. The new "mechanical letter sorting system" combines and improves the functions of optical text reader, video signal encoder and letter sorting machine, which is helpful to simplify and optimize the mail processing process. Hongkong Post has installed four automatic mail distribution and stamping machines at the General Post Office and the International Mail Center. These stamp machines automatically divide mail into parcels and letters, and then stamp the letters with dates, and then divide them into local/surface mail and airmail.
Located in Chih? The air mail center of Hong Kong International Airport at Cape Point is also equipped with mechanized equipment to automate the procedures of sorting postal parcels and parcels and facilitate the handling of air cargo containers. All counters, delivery offices and letter sorting centers are equipped with a "mail tracking system" to track speedpost, local speedpost, registration, record delivery, insurance and other mail and parcels by computer. In addition, Hongkong Post also informs customers of the tracking information through the interactive voice response system and website.
Hongkong Post's computerized integrated receiving and dispatching management system adopts mobile communication equipment and GPRS technology, which makes the operation of express delivery business automatic. Hongkong Post participated in the meetings and activities of the Universal Postal Union as a member of the People's Republic of China (PRC) delegation. UPU was founded in Bern, Switzerland on 1874. It is committed to promoting the sustainable development of high-quality and efficient universal postal service, facilitating the communication of people everywhere, and ensuring the unimpeded mail in a single postal area composed of UPU member countries. The UPU Congress is held every four years, and is responsible for formulating relevant strategic matters and reviewing the existing procedures and regulations of postal work to ensure that the existing arrangements can still meet the needs of the current society. From July to August, 2008, Hongkong Post participated in the 24th General Assembly of the Universal Postal Union as a member of the China delegation. In addition, Hongkong Post has retained its status as an independent postal organization, and continued to handle import and export mail quickly and properly with postal organizations in other countries, and signed bilateral postal service agreements. Apart from the Universal Postal Union, Hongkong Post also participated in the meetings and activities of the Asia-Pacific Postal Union (UPU) as a member of the China delegation. The Asia-Pacific Postal Union is a regional postal union responsible for handling postal affairs in Asia and Oceania. The goal of the alliance is to improve postal services through understanding and cooperation among postal authorities in the region.
In June 2007, Hongkong Post was elected as the Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Postal Cooperation Organization. The cooperation group was established in 1998 to improve the postal service quality in the Asia-Pacific region; Help postal members to expand market share; Solve the business, commercial, technical and economic problems of postal services in the region. At present, the Asia-Pacific Postal Cooperation Organization has 25 members of postal organizations and a management committee composed of seven members.
