Historical evolution of Tianjin Baxianshan National Nature Reserve

The formation of Baxian Mountain is the Changcheng System quartzite deposited by the ancient sea between 1.4 billion and 1.8 billion years ago. By 100 million years ago, another great geological phenomenon occurred in the Yanshan area: the Yanshan movement fractured, folds and uplifts appeared, and the appearance of the mountain appeared, and the landform of the Baxian Mountain was basically formed.

Emperor Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty sent a Feng Shui master to hike to the vicinity of Changrui Mountain because there were no good caves to choose from in Tianshou Mountain. He took a fancy to the good Feng Shui in this area and planned to build a royal cemetery in this area.

In the eighth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1651), Shunzhi took a fancy to the treasure land of Dongling, but did not build the imperial mausoleum during his reign. During the Kangxi period, the construction of imperial mausoleums began. The Qing Dynasty also built 6 royal mausoleums at the foothills of Huanghua Mountain near Baxian Mountain and behind Shitouying Village.

In the second year of Xuantong (1910), the Qing government was unable to pay the military salaries of the Dongling Guards, so it announced that the "Qing Dongling Feng Shui Forbidden Zone" would be closed and "replace the salary with forests." Wood traders from all over the country flocked to the area and carried out predatory felling of Baxian Mountain and surrounding forests. In this historic disaster, the original forest of Baxian Mountain was extremely severely damaged.

The Baxian Mountain area is one of the revolutionary base areas in eastern Hebei, with high mountains and dense forests, and few people.

During the anti-Japanese struggle, the Eight Immortals Mountain used its natural barrier to protect the Eighth Route Army and the common people, and was a beacon on the anti-Japanese front line. The Japanese invading army also made this place the focus of bombing, causing the already riddled Baxian Mountain forest to be plundered by artillery fire.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Jixian State-owned Forest Farm was established in the Baxian Mountain area in 1955. It has carried out forest cultivation and conservation of the Baxian Mountain and surrounding forest areas for more than 40 years, making the forest ecosystem and environment of the Baxian Mountain gradually improve. It was restored and formed a rare natural secondary forest area in North China that retains the characteristics of the original forest.

In December 1984, with the approval of the Tianjin Municipal People’s Government, the Jixian Baxian Table Natural Secondary Forest Ecological Nature Reserve was established. From 1984 to 1988, the Tianjin Municipal People's Government organized relevant scientists to conduct a four-year resource mapping and comprehensive investigation of Baxian Mountain.

In April 1990, with the approval of the Tianjin Municipal People's Government, the Baxian Table Nature Reserve was upgraded to a municipal nature reserve. In July 1991, the nature reserve was renamed "Tianjin Jixian Baxianshan Nature Reserve" .

In November 1995, the State Council made a decision after conducting a large number of inspections and demonstrations, naming the Baxian Mountain Reserve as the "Baxian Mountain National Nature Reserve", with an area of ??5,360 hectares, and determined The positioning of Baxian Mountain in nature protection, popular science research and tourism resources.

On June 1, 1996, the Baxianshan National Nature Reserve was officially opened to tourists.

On November 22, 1999, it was approved by the National Association for Science and Technology as one of the first batch of science education bases in the country.
