1. Fate
Fate is determined at birth, you have no choice. But it has the greatest impact on your life. The lives of people who are born into rich families and those who are born into poverty are definitely different. In some poor mountains, many children have never left the town where they belong. It is conceivable that their lives can be compared with those born in the richest families. You may argue that everyone may not be happy. Pretty much, if you insist on saying that, I can't help it.
But from an objective measurement standard, there will be a huge difference in the lives of the two. The gap caused by fate, if the gap is small, can be made up through acquired efforts. But when the gap is too large, your efforts alone may not be enough, and it may take several generations of efforts to make up for it. In 1997, Gary Locke, a Chinese-American native of Guangdong, was elected governor of Washington State, becoming the first Chinese-American governor to successfully run for office. In the late 19th century, his grandfather immigrated to the United States from Taishan, Guangdong, and worked as a servant for a wealthy family in Seattle, less than two kilometers away from the governor's mansion of Washington State. By January 1997, Locke took possession of this official residence for a full 100 years. He lamented many times: "It took our family 100 years to complete this 1 mile (about 1.6 kilometers)."
2. Luck
My personal understanding is that luck is actually divided into There are two types, one is unconscious and pure luck. One is conscious.
1. Unconscious "luck"
I won't talk about a person winning a huge prize by buying a lottery ticket, but I will talk about something that I have many daily contacts with. Have you ever had this experience? You and your college classmate, you studied better than him, and you were looking for a job together. You chose a central enterprise according to the selection criteria at the time (for a period of time, central enterprises were the most popular among graduates). But your classmates, unable to enter state-owned enterprises, entered ordinary enterprises at that time. In 10 years, you may be a minor official in a central enterprise with an annual salary of 200,00. Of course, you may also face layoffs, but your classmates may have achieved financial freedom because the company went public. For example, in the communications industry, when I graduated, Huawei was not the most popular company. At that time, companies such as Nokia and Ericsson were popular companies. Many good students chose foreign companies, and some students who couldn't find foreign companies chose Huawei. Fifteen years later, when Huawei's per capita salary is close to 700,000 per year, Nokia engineers are still earning the same salary level as 15 years ago, and they are still worried every day whether the next wave of layoffs will affect them. For another example, Liang Wendao said in the roundtable: "Reporters often ask me what is the reason for my success. I usually don't think that I am successful. If I have to say it, I personally can only say that it is good luck." In this case, I personally understand it as unexplainable luck. According to the words of my hometown, it can only be understood as the smoke coming out of his ancestral grave.
3. Feng Shui
The Feng Shui I understand is an environment that can be changed. Everyone must have read about Mencius's mother moving three times. Mencius's mother moved three times in order to give Mencius a good growing environment. There is an issue of Luo Ji Thinking, which talks about the solidification of classes in the United States. I personally don’t believe that American classes have become solidified, but the examples he gave illustrate the importance of the environment to people. Luo Pang said in it: In the United States, it is not difficult for children in slums to find a job and gradually escape from the slums. There are two basic conditions: one is to graduate from high school, and the other is not to get pregnant out of wedlock. But the strange thing is that many children in slums are unable to do these two things due to their environment, and there are quite a few unmarried and early pregnancies. And if they want to avoid unmarried early pregnancy, they must be completely isolated from their previous slum life until they enter college. Therefore, the environment in which one grows up is very important. Of course, what I emphasize is that it can be changed. If it can't be changed, it's not Feng Shui, it's fate.
