Shiqi was named much earlier than Tiecheng. Zheng Yu, a Xiangshan poet in the late Tang Dynasty, had already written a poem titled "Pan Shiqi Sea". It can be seen that as early as before the Tang Dynasty, there was "Shiqi" "This place name; Tiecheng slowly became famous after the establishment of Xiangshan County and the selection of the county seat in the 22nd year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1152), because "The Legend of Tiecheng" was widely circulated among the people.
At first, Shiqi and Tiecheng referred to different scopes. Tiecheng refers to the county town surrounded by city walls, and Shiqi refers to the open area along the east bank of the Qijiang River. Since the Qin and Han Dynasties, it has been a small fishing port and an important distribution center for Xiangshan fisheries.
Yandun Mountain, also known as Shiqishan and Fufeng, is one of the ancient coastal defense outposts with a beacon tower on it. Whenever pirates were discovered to be attacking, smoke would be burned as a warning, hence the name Yandun. After Xiangshan County was established, it was regarded as a "lower county" by the imperial court due to its location in the border area and backward economy. How can this situation be changed? Mr. Feng Shui plausibly said: The terrain of Shiqi was originally a "net basket (i.e. fish net) land". Yandun Mountain and Mashan on the east and west sides of the Qijiang River are the two "buildings" with the "divine basket" spread out. Due to the smoke, Dunshan Mountain is shorter than Mashan Mountain, so the opened "Shenzong" tilts towards Yandun Mountain. As a result, the "Shenzong" cannot be supported stably and cannot be held, and the "wealth" leaks out in vain.
In September of the 36th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1608), Cai Jishan, the magistrate of Xiangshan County, accepted the suggestions of the squires and decided to build a Feng Shui tower on Yandun Mountain so that its total height would be the same as Mashan Mountain in Changzhou. This is the origin of Yandun Wenta.
The Yandun Wen Pagoda, also known as the "Flower Pagoda" among the people, is a seven-story octagonal pavilion-style brick structure tower with cornices on each floor. The top of the tower is made of cast iron, and the entire shape is like a giant pen writing poetry on the blue sky, so it is also called "writing pen". Since the completion of Yandun Pagoda, the "Fufeng Literary Pagoda" among the "Eight Scenic Spots of Xiangshan" has been included. It originally refers to Huzhou Mountain, which is shaped like a writing brush, but now refers to the Yandun Mountain Tower, which is shaped like a writing brush.
There are many opinions on how Shi Qi got his name. First, in order to prevent flooding, Chen Tianjue directed everyone to build two stone embankments in the south and north on Shiqi Sea, which are the Shangji and Lower Ji. "岐" is derived from "奇". However, Shi Qi was obviously named before Chen Tianjue lived, so this argument cannot be established. Another theory is that in ancient times, the east coast of Shiqi Sea was full of rocks, hence the name "Qi". However, if the water is shallow and rocky, and ships cannot approach it, how can it become a fishing port? So this argument cannot be established.
In fact, Shiqi is named after its landscape shape. Let’s talk about mountains first. According to historical records, Shiqishan Mountain was originally a stone mountain. After the Song Dynasty, stone was quarried for building materials in successive dynasties. Let’s talk about water next. In Zheng Yu’s poem "Pan Shi Qihai", there is a sentence "Qihai is diverting". This The word "divergence" proves that the original meaning of "Qi" is indeed "divergence". However, it does not refer to the "Qi" of the stone embankment, but the "divergence" of the river. As for why "Qi" was changed to "Qi"? This is because Shiqi is located to the west of Fufeng. The ancient Xiangshan people associated it with Xiqi, the birthplace of the Zhou Dynasty in the 800th year of the Zhou Dynasty. In order to seek auspiciousness, they changed "Qi" to "Qi". "Qi", later the names of Fengming Road, Shanfeng Street and other streets in this area also continued to follow this idea.
The mountains are rocky and the water is divergent, which is why "Shiqi" got its name.
