Later generations did not forget his sufferings and ate porridge as a souvenir on the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month every year. "Laba" became "Buddha's Day". Cooking porridge such as fruit for Buddha is called "Laba porridge". Laba porridge was presented to disciples and kind men and women, and later became a folk custom. It is said that in some monasteries, before the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, monks would hold alms bowls along the street and cook the collected rice, chestnuts, dates, nuts and other materials into Laba porridge and distribute it to the poor. Legend has it that if you eat it, you can get the blessing of Buddha.

Qin Shihuang built the Great Wall from Qin Shihuang. According to legend, Qin Shihuang summoned workers from all over the world to repair the Great Wall, and the workers were ordered to come. During the construction of the Great Wall, they were not allowed to go home to reunite with their families all the year round, and all the food was sent by their families. Some workers are too far away to get food supply, so they starve to death on the Great Wall. One year, it was a cold winter, and several migrant workers with little appetite cooked by themselves, and no one drank a bowl. However, a few days later they starved to death. In order to mourn these workers, people drink Laba porridge on Laba Festival to commemorate these workers.
Zhu Yuanzhang was rescued from suffering. It is said that Zhu Yuanzhang suffered in prison. He was hungry and cold, pulling rice, millet, wheat, soybeans and other grain in the field. Zhu Yuanzhang stewed these things in a pot and ate them. These things saved Zhu Yuanzhang's life. Later, Zhu Yuanzhang became the emperor of the Ming Dynasty. In order to commemorate his days in prison, he designated this day as Laba Festival. The custom is to eat porridge cooked with whole grains, named Laba porridge!
Loyalty to Yue Fei is unforgettable, because people miss Yue Fei, a loyal minister. At that time, Yue Fei led the troops into Zhuxian Town. It was a cold winter. Yue Jiajun was hungry and exhausted, and the people gave food to the soldiers. Yue Jiajun cooked the grain sent by the people, defeated Jin Jun and won. It happened to be the eighth day of December. After the death of Feng Boting of Yue Fei, in order to commemorate Yue Fei, people cooked whole grains on this day to express their nostalgia for Yue Fei.
The ingredients of Laba porridge vary from place to place. On the eighth day of the eighth lunar month, eight things are mixed. Among them, rice, carrots and vegetables are indispensable three treasures. In addition, there are peanuts (or soybeans), lotus seeds, ginkgo, tofu or oily tofu, taro and other ingredients. If you want to add more ingredients, you can put Sichuan fungus, red dates and vegetarian bean cakes, but you can't put vegetarian ham and mushrooms.
The ingredients of Laba porridge now depend on personal taste, generally including rice, peanuts, mung beans, red beans, lotus seeds and so on.
Other accessories include lentils, red dates, longan, yam, lily, medlar, coix seed, millet and other beans. Exquisite methods use more than 20 kinds of ingredients. Taomi, soaking fruit, peeling, coring and careful picking began to be busy on the seventh day of the twelfth lunar month, and Laba was completed early in the morning. Sweet mouth condenses efforts.
Feng Shui says that the twelfth lunar month is a cold January. If you rush into a new house, the cold atmosphere will block the bustling atmosphere at home, which sounds reasonable.
Laba porridge is not the annual Laba Festival in the afternoon. The night before, people began to prepare Laba ingredients and cook Laba porridge. When you eat it the next morning, you can also give it to friends and relatives, and you won't be able to eat it at noon. Because there is a saying that "eat porridge early and harvest food early next year". This means a good omen for a bumper harvest in the coming year.
