What is a gable?

Gables refer to:

Gables are generally called external transverse walls, which means that the walls arranged along the short axis of the building are called transverse walls, and the external walls at both ends of the building are generally called gables. Ancient buildings generally have gables, which are mainly used to separate from neighbors' houses and prevent fire.

As the saying goes, "Knocking on the gables will inevitably hurt people", because the main beam of the traditional hard gabled house in China is built on the gables, and the gables are often load-bearing walls. If the door is opened on the wall, the bearing capacity of the wall will be reduced, and the main beam is in danger of falling.

The shape of gables:

There are three forms of gables, one is herringbone, which is simple and practical and has low repair cost, so it is widely used by the people. Second, the shape of the pot ear, with beautiful lines and great changes, is actually modeled after the shape of the ancient official hat, which is very promising, because its shape is like iron pot's ear, which is commonly known as the ear wall among the people. Hu 'er wall is widely used not only in the gable of ancestral temple, but also in the houses of ordinary people. A building like the nylon hall is a typical kettle-ear gable.

The third is wavy. Shape ups and downs, pay attention to symmetry, ups and downs are mostly three levels. In fact, it is the deformation of the ear wall of the pot, more like the ancient official hat, which is basically not used by the people. In larger buildings, it appears in the community together with herringbone gables and pot-ear gables, which is particularly eye-catching.
