Su Dongpo built a well.

There is an ancient well next to Dongpo Pavilion in a campus in Hepu County, Guangxi. It is said that Su Dongpo dug it at that time, hence the name "Dongpo Well". According to legend, Su Dongpo went to Lianzhou and learned that Lianzhou people drank water from Lianjiang outside the west gate, so he asked people why they didn't dig wells. People told him that the local concept of geomantic omen is very heavy, and digging wells to get water in the city will destroy geomantic omen, so there are only three wells dug by predecessors in the city. Su Dongpo disagreed. He said there are not only three wells in the city, but also many ponds. These wells and ponds have no bad influence on Lianzhou, and there will certainly be no problem in digging wells for water. In order to convince the people, he dug a well near his residence, and invited local scholars to taste it after the well was built. Everyone thinks the well water is sweet and the water quality is good, so they come here to carry water. Su Dongpo, a celebrity, took the lead in drilling wells, and Lianzhou followed suit and dug many wells to provide convenience for citizens to drink water. After Su Dongpo left Lianzhou, people named the well he funded "Dongpo Well" and engraved it to commemorate it.
