The south is auspicious, the north is rich, the east is purple, and the west is auspicious.

This is an ancient couplet. Literally, auspicious sunshine comes from the south, endless wealth comes from the north, honor and luxury come from the east, and sustained prosperity comes from the west. Generally speaking, it is an auspicious blessing. In the old saying, the southeast and northwest, when said separately, generally do not refer to a certain direction, just for the neatness and rhythm of couplets. For the simplest example, the most appropriate explanation of "buy horses in the east market, saddles in the west market (jiān), reins in the south market (pèi) and whips in the north market" in Yuefu poem Mulan Ci is "buy harness everywhere in the market".

China is located in the northern hemisphere, in the east of Eurasia. Most of the land is located in the north of the Tropic of Cancer (23 degrees 26 north latitude), and the perennial sunshine comes from the south. A house facing south is easy to get light. Sunlight has many benefits for people: first, it can keep warm, and the temperature in the south house is higher than that in the north house in winter 1-2 degrees; The second is to participate in the synthesis of vitamin D in human body, and children often bask in the sun to prevent rickets; Third, ultraviolet rays in the sun have bactericidal effect; Fourth, it can enhance human immune function.

South Suzaku, North Xuanwu, East Qinglong, West White Tiger. In feng shui, the dragon is strong and the tiger is weak. Qi is the source of all things, Tai Chi is qi, two instruments are produced by one product, three are born and five elements are used. Soil comes from gas, water comes from gas, people come from gas, and gas feels it. Everything has nothing to do with qi. Besides, in ancient times, purple gas generally represented dragon gas, and dragons came from the East, so purple gas came from the East! In contrast, the tiger is blessed!
