Construction of Zhanjiang Bay Bridge in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province started on 1992, officially started on July 30, 2003, and was completed and opened to traffic on February 30, 2006, which lasted for 4 years.
The first phase project of Zhanjiang Bay Bridge and connecting line starts from Huang Po Town of Wuchuan City to G325 in the east, passes through Potou District of Zhanjiang City along the S373 line, crosses Maxie Bay at the upstream of Pingle Ferry 1.3km, and finally reaches Leshan Avenue of Zhanjiang City. The whole line includes Zhanjiang Bay Bridge, with a total length of 398 1 m and a four-lane first-class highway, with a total investment of about10.2 billion yuan. Among them, the main bridge of Zhanjiang Bay Bridge is a hybrid beam cable-stayed bridge with twin towers and double cable planes. The cable-stayed bridge has a main span of 480m and a side span of 120m+60m. The bridge has a water depth of 20m, a foundation depth of 104m and a tower height of 155.3m, which is technically difficult and the project is very arduous. It is the largest bridge construction project in Guangdong after Humen Bridge.
The bridge was paved with epoxy asphalt for the first time in Guangdong, and the bridge-building machine with movable formwork for 50-meter continuous beam was developed for the first time. The parallel galvanized steel wire rope is adopted for the first time, and the internationally advanced seismic bearing is installed between the main tower and the steel box beam.
Zhanjiang Bay Bridge can resist the impact of ships of 50,000 tons and above, typhoons of magnitude 12 and earthquakes of magnitude 8. A series of research results have promoted the development of bridge construction technology at home and abroad.

The pile foundation, pile cap, tower column and approach bridge of the bridge were awarded the bid by Guangdong Changda Highway Engineering Company, the hero of road and bridge construction, and the steel box girder of the main bridge was manufactured and installed by Zhongtieshan Bridge Group, a century-old shop made by China Steel Bridge, both of which were listed as "Top Ten Bridge Heroes in China's traffic construction".
The pile foundation of the main pier of the bridge is104m to106m, which is the first long pile for bridge construction in Guangdong Province. The location of the main pier is a stratum named after "Zhanjiang Formation", with a thickness of over 250 meters and amazing viscosity. When a drill bit with a diameter of two or three meters goes down, it will soon paste into a big mud ball, which will be cleaned once every two or three days, and it will take 28 days to drill a pile. Technicians from all sides of the bridge worked hard day and night, held "Zhuge meetings" at various construction sites, and finally worked out a new technical scheme to improve the drill bit. The construction speed is increased from 28 days to 1 1 day. "Research on Long Pile Hole-forming Technology" won the Science and Technology Progress Award of Guangdong Provincial Communications Department, reaching the world leading level.
It is the first time to design the curved tower of bridge in China. Bridge builders carefully study the construction scheme, adopt elaborate construction control network, make special formwork according to the line shape, and then paste iron sheets, so that the curve of the completed main tower is smooth and the surface is flat.
On June 2, 2006, at 0: 1 1, the temperature was 29 degrees Celsius. After the hoisting of the last steel box girder of Zhanjiang Bay Bridge, the steel box girder weighing more than 100 tons was firmly embedded in the gap of the last 1 1.2 meters of the main span at an altitude of 50 meters above the sea, just like a seamless structure, and a successful hoisting was realized.
