In 1272 AD, Kublai Khan listened to Liu Bingzhong’s suggestion and rebuilt Zhongdu!
Kublai Khan seized the throne and the country, and changed "Mongolia" to "Dayuan Mongolia" , became the "Yuan Dynasty" we know today. At the same time, he built the Governor's Palace of the Yuan Dynasty, which directly laid the foundation for Zhu Yuanzhang to build the Nanjing Forbidden City in 1366. He is also Guo Shoujing's teacher (Guo Shoujing crater on the moon and Guo Shoujing asteroid in the universe).
He is also the elder brother of Chinese legend Zhang Sanfeng. Of course, Zhang Sanfeng is a legendary figure, but in the Ming Dynasty, there was a saying that Zhang Sanfeng was Liu Bingzhong's apprentice. Having said all that, who is this monk? His dharma name is Zicong. Monk Zicong was the most famous minister in Kublai Khan's circle of Han advisors.
This monk is not a simple man. He helped Hu Bi Lie conquer the world, save the people, build Beijing, and name the country Tian Yuan Zicong. He was born in 1216, one year younger than Kublai Khan. Kublai Khan liked Buddhism very much. In 1241, he invited Master Haiyun to teach Buddhist scriptures. On the way north, Haiyun met the monk Zicong. Monk Zicong's ancestral home is in today's Suizhong County, Liaoning Province, and he was born in Xingzhou (Xingtai). As officials of the Liao Kingdom, his ancestors accumulated a lot of wealth, so they were a famous family there. Seng Zicong's grandfather Liu Ze was left in Xingtai by his father, who was the deputy envoy of Xingzhou during the Jin Dynasty.
After the master returned to China, Zicong stayed with Kublai Khan. In 1251, the Mongolian Khan appointed Kublai Khan to manage the affairs of Mongolia and Beijing. In the history of the Yuan Dynasty written by Li Shanchang and Song Lian, and in the history of the Yuan Dynasty written by Zhu Yuanzhang 80 or 90 years later, the monk Zicong said this. "Being removed from the list, summoned again, and ordered to return to the forest. Wrote several thousand words." Kublai Khan ordered Liu Bingzhong to preside over the construction of the new capital. Liu Bingzhong designated the open space in the northeast of the old city as the site of the new city, made a comprehensive plan according to the traditional system and specifications of the Central Plains capital, and built a new capital. Liu Bingzhong believes that Beijing is a treasure land with excellent Feng Shui. It is the land of "Wolong" surrounded by mountains and rivers, and is most suitable for being the capital of a dynasty.
