The abbot of Zhongtai Temple is Wei Jue, a monk from yingshan county, Sichuan. He came into contact with Buddhism when he was young and became a monk at the age of 30. In Taiwan Province Province, Yilan Jixiang Temple, Xinzhuyuan Ming Temple, and Lantau Island, Hong Kong. 197 1 ended, and returned to Taiwan Province province from Hongkong for further maintenance. Because of its profound merits, it attracted converted disciples and lay devotees to seek advice from Zen Buddhism, and its reputation rose accordingly. After the completion of Zhongtai Temple, its reputation is even higher. In May 2005, Monk Wei Jue handed over the position of abbot to his disciple, Monk Deng Jian.
Construction of Zhongtai Temple: 1987, I only think that monks should build Lingquan Temple at the request of the public. Since the beginning of the mountain, the number of converted disciples has increased dramatically, and the original space is not enough. However, the monk is planning to build a temple under construction. 1992 set up a preparatory committee to collect donations from believers from all walks of life. Finally, with the strong support of the government and the Buddhist Association, the construction began in 1994, and was completed and put into use in September 2006 at a cost of NT$ 2.3 billion. At present, there are more than 80 branches in Taiwan Province Province, which hold religious activities on a regular basis and become the belief center of many Buddhist believers, with an endless stream of tourists and believers.
Abbot Wei Jue and famous architect Li Zuyuan (the designer of Taipei 10 1 building) have integrated Chinese and Western architectural elements and construction techniques in the construction of Zhongtai Temple, integrating Buddhist epiphany, gradual cultivation spirit and ancient jungle style, containing five connotations of Buddhism, integrating academics, art, religion, culture and science without losing Zen; Temple architecture, Buddha statues, murals, paintings, sculptures, calligraphy and other aspects contain rich artistic connotations, showing the Buddhist spirit of truth, goodness and beauty, which is both artistic and solemn.
As soon as Zhongtai Temple was completed, it won the "Taiwan Architecture Award" in 2002 and the "International Lighting Design Excellence Award" in 2003.
Zhongtai Temple has complete hardware facilities, including Zen Hall, Four Kings Hall, Bodhisattva Hall, Three Buddha Hall, lecture hall, guest room, aniseed hall and fasting hall for believers to visit and use.
Main halls: Four Heavenly Kings Hall, Ursa Major Hall, Dizang Hall and Ten Thousand Buddhas Hall.
Main Landscape: Seven Pagodas of Pharmacists and Ten Thousand Buddha Walls.
Main collections: Zhongtai Temple Library and Zhongtai Mountain Museum.
Other landscapes: mountain gate, gold inlaid pavilion, Rokuyaon, Tong Yuan Bridge, etc.
We arrived at the temple around 13:40 in the afternoon, entered the main hall at 14: 00 and left the temple at 14:50. In a limited time, I visited the Four Kings Hall, Mahayana Hall and the backyard of Zen Temple, but failed to visit the Dizang Hall, the Ten Thousand Buddhas Hall, the Seven Pagodas of Pharmacists, the Ten Thousand Buddhas Wall, the Zen Temple Library and the Zhongtai Mountain Museum.
Since I entered the Temple of Four Kings, I feel spacious, bright and quiet. Smoking, burning incense and making noise are forbidden here. The staff of the Zen Temple not only guide the visitors, but also remind them to speak softly and pay attention to the safety of walking and going up and down the stairs, which is even more warm and solemn. Indeed, you began to consciously restrain your words and deeds and blend into the environment here.
Next, I will show what I saw during my visit as follows:
Location of Zhongtai Temple:
In front of the main hall of Zen temple
The antithetical couplet at the main entrance of Zen Temple is displayed on the right side as "All living beings in Central Taiwan smile and pass on their ancestors' meaning from generation to generation", on the left side as "The theory of learning from sages in the Western Heaven is spread everywhere", on the right side of the main hall as "Breaking the customs at the beginning, re-closing customs and seeing the true colors of life and death", and on the left side as "Static six roots, six dusts, six senses and eighteen yin realms, that is, the Tathagata must report to the three bodies". The right flag of the lintel is Prajna, the middle flag is Dharma Body, and the left flag is liberation.
The gatekeeper lions around the temple, and the inscriptions in front of the lions record the construction process of the temple.
Enter the main hall, that is, the Hall of the Four Kings.
There is a statue of the Heavenly King in the Temple of Four Days, with a height of12m. The lintel is equipped with couplets with a height exceeding10m. The right couplet reads "Weilinghe Town IV, Emperor Releases Gancheng", and the left couplet reads "Always surround a sumeru to protect the external gods", showing the weeds of the four Heavenly Kings.
The Four Heavenly Kings Hall is the main hall of Zhongtai Hall, and the center of the hall is dedicated to Maitreya Bodhisattva. Behind Maitreya, there is a "Wei Tuo Bodhisattva" wearing armor and holding a sword together.
"Wei Tuo Bodhisattva" Behind Maitreya Bodhisattva
The four heavenly kings are the guardians of the dharma, namely, the King of the East, the King of the South, the King of the West, and the King of the North. The gods hold instruments that symbolize good weather, national prosperity and people's security.
The statues of the four heavenly kings are located around the temple. They are all carved from Shanxi black granite, about 12 meters high and weighing 100 tons. Their indomitable spirit and serious eyes are shocking, which makes the hall full of strong Buddhist shock.
Daxiong Hall is located on the second floor of the main building, which is directly accessible from the Four Heavenly Kings Hall. Daxiong Hall is the main hall dedicated to Buddha statues in the Buddhist jungle Dojo. A statue of Sakyamuni Buddha carved from Indian red granite is located in the center of the hall. The overall space design of Daxiong Hall in Zhongtai Temple is mainly in red and gray, and the venerable Ananda and the ascetic monk Ye Jia on both sides represent the spiritual practice.
The main halls on both sides of the Ursa Major Hall are the Ancestral Hall (west side) and the Blue Earth Hall (east side). On the east side of the Temple of Heaven, Guandi deserves to be the god here.
The ancestral temple in the west is dedicated to the founder of Buddhism and the early ancestor of Zen.
In the two corners of the main hall, there are porcelain vases nearly 10 meters high, which are said to have been carved by seven artists with flax, pigments, shells and other materials for several years.
Next to the main hall is a tall corridor with a golden Buddha statue on the wall and a text introduction. There are many red lanterns hanging above the promenade, which read "Good luck and peace".
This is the information desk of Zen Temple, which introduces the functional area, architectural distribution and Buddhist concept of Zen Temple in Chinese, English and Japanese respectively. The abbot who started the mountain in the Zen Temple thought there was a portrait of a monk hanging here.
"Respect the superior and the inferior, be kind to others and be true to things"-this is the purpose of Zhongtai Temple, which is called "under the temptation" and can be seen in many places in the temple.
When I left the main hall of the Zen Temple, I met monks at the gate to distribute information about the Zen Temple to tourists and promote Buddhism.
The pillars around the temple are inlaid with bronze statues. Are they the guardians of the main hall?
The temple has an elegant environment, with kapok in full bloom in the courtyard and bougainvillea in front of the temple, which makes people feel the vitality of spring.
The view in front of the Zen Temple is wide, and in the distance is a green forest and rolling mountains. Perhaps these constitute the feng shui treasure house of Zen Temple.
Next to the Zen Temple is the Zhongtai Mountain Museum, which is rich in Buddhist collections, including the northern Zhou Dynasty stone carving Nigumei 1500 years ago.
The first copper bridge in the history of Tong Yuan Bridge is 9.8 meters long, 2.2 meters wide and weighs 8 tons. Designed by mainland artist Zhu Bingren. At the end of 2007, it was presented by Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou to Zhongtai Temple in Taiwan Province Province, symbolizing the peaceful exchange between the people on both sides of the strait and the Buddhist community, and realizing the "cross-strait connection without bridge".
Due to the limited equipment I brought, the visit time was relatively short, and I didn't take a full picture of Zhongtai Temple. In order to let everyone see the panoramic view of Zhongtai Temple, here are some panoramic views released by netizens for everyone to enjoy. Heartfelt thanks to these netizens! If there is anything wrong, please inform the netizen and I will delete it immediately.
For other scenes of the Zen Temple that have not been photographed, the following are expressed in the form of written materials.
The Dizang Hall is dedicated to the Buddha who wants to be the king of the earth. The statue is carved out of Brazilian white jade and sits on a lotus platform with six paintings carved on it. These six totems are presented in relief. The whole back wall is engraved with the full text of "I would like to be a bodhisattva of Diwang" embossed by sandblasting computer technology, with a total of 10000 words, which is the largest in Taiwan Province Province.
The Wanfo Hall is located on the 0/6th floor of Zhongtai Temple/KLOC-with a height of 39 meters. Ten thousand bronze statues and 88 Buddha statues are listed on the surrounding walls, creating a magnificent ten thousand Buddha wall, hence the name. The Seven Pagodas in Yamatonokusushi, the curtain glass, are majestic and finely crafted buildings in the Ten Thousand Buddhas Hall, making the whole hall like a pure Buddhist land protected by ten Buddhas.
The Seven Pagodas of Pharmacists stand in the center of the Ten Thousand Buddhas Hall and the center of the central axis of the Zhongtai Hall. Looking inward through the curtain glass of lotus petals, the whole pagoda is classical and solemn and clearly visible. The seven pagodas are all made of traditional big wood, and the tenons without nails are made by exquisite construction methods, showing the architectural characteristics of traditional cornices and arches.
The overall architectural appearance of Zhongtai Temple is pagoda-shaped. The seven pagodas are built in the center of the temple, and there are pagodas in the pagodas, forming the architectural feature of "there are pagodas in the pagodas".
Seven-storey stupa, each floor dedicated to seven buddha, and a bronze pharmacist: a good name and auspicious king Tathagata, a wise-eyed king Tathagata, resplendent and spotless, with a wonderful treasure, trouble is better than good luck, Lei Yin Tathagata, Fahai Sheng Hui's magical game, and pharmacist Glazed Tathagata.
The Ten Thousand Buddhas Wall lives in the Ten Thousand Buddhas Hall, which consists of 20,000 bronze pharmacist buddhas and 88 buddhas embedded in the wall. The buddhas and buddhas reflect each other, just like a magnificent Buddhist pure land. These icons are all hand-carved, and it took more than two years to complete after over-burning, cooling, gluing, carving, forging, polishing and electroplating.
There are 108 Buddha statues sandblasted with glass at the V-shaped openings on both sides of the Ten Thousand Buddha Hall. We urge practitioners to practice dharma, stop worrying and turn to the holy stream. Looking up, there are 42 glass-blasted Buddha statues under the pedestal of the 23-story ladder lotus platform, revealing all the ten Bodhisattvas for the participants in the visiting ceremony, and they have been cultivated into sacred fruits through 42 levels, including ten faiths, ten residences, ten rows, ten directions, equal senses and wonderful senses.
Modern technology and technology of optical fiber backlight and smallpox? The backlight of more than 20,000 copper-cast pharmacists' buddhas in Wanfo Hall provides a safe and energy-saving effect by using optical fiber technology, which presents a soft backlight with changing colors for a bronze statue of pharmacists' buddhas. At night, the Buddha's fiber-optic backlight, fiber-optic ceiling over 39 meters, soft light and changing colors are a bright Buddhist temple, showing the Buddha's pure land, glass and precious light, and millions of colors of dignity and wealth. Looking up at the ceiling of the top floor of the Wanfo Hall, a string of quiet and soft optical fiber shimmer is 39 meters away, which clearly and solemnly outlines the weather of the Buddha country. Ten radial indirect lighting, between lotus petals, shines outward, representing the ten dharma circles, blending and photographing each other; In the center, it is a pure lotus. After careful observation, you will find that the center of the lotus is hollow, and it also represents all appearances. It should eventually belong to a real dharma circle, impartial and without reality or emptiness.
The curtain glass is in the Ten Thousand Buddha Hall, and the lotus petal-shaped curtain glass on both sides draws the interaction inside and outside the Ten Thousand Buddha Hall, and also reveals the quiet and solemn wishes of the buddhas in the Ten Thousand Buddha Hall. The large curtain wall glass with a height of 30m and a width of16.5m is a large curtain wall tensile structural glass designed and manufactured by a professional German manufacturer. It has no frame design, no beams or columns, no backstop, and the safety factor is extremely high. Looking at Zhongtai Temple in the distance during the day, you can clearly see the Seven stupas of pharmacists through the transparent and clean curtain glass. As night falls, the Ten Thousand Buddhas Hall is brightly lit.
Zhongtai Temple Library is located at the back of the first floor of the main building, providing in-depth study and teaching of Confucian classics for the public. Set up public reading area, magazine area, personal research room, computer inquiry area, copying room, book reference area and other diversified and multifunctional spaces. At present, there are about 30 thousand books. Besides Buddhist classics and books, there are more books on literature, history, philosophy and art.
I am a layman in Buddhism and architecture, but I feel that Zhongtai Temple is different from many temples and embodies its own characteristics:
1, unique architectural style, excellent building materials and excellent building quality. Its architecture is modern, fashionable and European. The Zen Temple has a distinctive Buddhist theme and complete facilities, and there is a sense of grandeur inside and outside the store.
2. Adopt modern technology, modern technology, modern building materials and modern facilities, such as optical fiber backlight, glass curtain wall, central air conditioning, computer management, liquid crystal display, etc.
3. Elegant environment and good air quality. As the saying goes: when you enter the temple gate, burn incense and worship Buddha, add oil and light a lamp. This is a custom of traditional temples and a classic sight. But here, we only worship Buddha without burning incense. There is no complex incense atmosphere like traditional temples, but there is a lot of smoke, quiet, hygienic and solemn. It is said that the Zen masters emphasized that when worshipping Buddha, they are sincere and spiritual, and they have Buddha in their hearts. They naturally want to follow the Buddhist concept. On the other hand, not burning incense is also to maintain the facilities of the temple and ensure the air quality here.
4. Visitors can take photos with the Buddha statue. It is said that the more photos they take, the deeper their relationship with Buddha.
