A cliché about who played the piano in the Three Kingdoms

A commonplace story can be found in Jin Dynasty Chen Shou's "Three Kingdoms Wei Shu Biography of Guan Ren"; this "talk" means talking, and the meaning of talking is not "playing" in playing the piano.

Cao Shuang had two confidants, one was He Yan, the official minister, and the other was Deng Yang, the official minister. They heard that Guan Ren was good at fortune-telling, and wanted him to tell fortunes for them. After Guan Ren divined, he advised them to imitate the Duke of Zhou and other great sages, be kind-hearted and do good deeds.

Deng Yang listened respectfully for a long time, and when he heard such a reprimand, he couldn't help but said angrily: "Isn't this a cliché? We already know this, why should we listen to your nagging anymore?" (" This is a common saying among old students.") He Yan's face was ashen and he said nothing.

Later He Yan, Deng Yang and Cao Shuang were executed together for conspiracy. When Guan Ren found out, he kept saying: "They ignored the commonplace words, so no wonder they ended up like this!"
