The ancient poem Linjiang Fairy

Linjiangxian, the Yangtze River is rolling eastward.

Author: Yang Shen

Dynasty: Ming dynasty

The Yangtze River flows eastward, and the waves wash away heroes.

Whether it is right and wrong or failure, it is empty now and has disappeared with the passage of time.

Castle Peak still exists, the sun still rises and the sunset still sets.

The white-haired hermit by the river has long been used to the changes of time.

I met an old friend and had a drink.

How many things in the past and how many times have been put into the conversation.

Translation:

Rolling the Yangtze River eastward, never looking back, how many heroes disappear like stormy waves.

What is right and wrong, success and failure, are short-lived and not long-lasting.

Only the green hills still exist and the sun still rises and sets.

White-haired fishermen on the river have long been used to the changes of the four seasons.

It's rare to meet friends and have a good drink.

Disturbances throughout the ages have become the material for drinking and chatting.

Author's brief introduction and creative background

Yang Shen, a writer in Ming Dynasty, was promoted to buddhist nun because of a modifier. Later, he was exiled to southern Yunnan, so he called himself a Bonanshan native and a veteran of Jinma Biji. There are more than 100 works. Later generations compiled the collection of St. Ann.

In the third year of Jiajing (1524), Yang Shen, who was editing in the Imperial Academy at that time, was sentenced to death in Yongchangwei, Yunnan Province because of his "gift" and was beaten by court staff. After Yang Shen arrived in Yunnan, he didn't feel depressed because he was detained. Instead, I often travel around, observe folk customs, and often write poems to express my feelings.

Yang Shen has lived in Yunnan for more than 30 years, and often travels between Bonan Jin Lan, Canger Jinbi, Lin 'an Mi and Chengjiang Songming, and his footprints are almost all over Yunnan. Wherever Yang Shen went, he talked with local literati about poetry, leaving a lot of poems describing Yunnan.
