Qingguo Alley in Teacher XX’s memory
Qingguo Alley used to be It's called Qianguo Lane, and it's probably where fruits and other products are bought and sold. It's very prosperous and is a commercial base. In the era when transportation was underdeveloped, many varieties of fruits, vegetables, daily necessities, etc. could be purchased here. At that time, fruits were considered to be luxuries other than daily necessities, somewhat similar to Lingjiatang in Changzhou today. People have been doing business here for a long time, so they call it Qianguo Lane. As more people called it, it was called "Wai". In Changzhou dialect, "qing" and "qian" were easily confused, so it was finally called Qingguo Lane.
Changzhou was very small back then. Today, Xiangjia Garden is already the post office of the county government. Dongpo Park is already quite a suburban place, so Qingguo Lane was the city center back then. Most people live along alleys: firstly, because this is the urban area, and it is more convenient to live in this distribution center for daily necessities; secondly, waterway transportation was very important in those days when land transportation was extremely underdeveloped, and Qingguo Alley existed parallel to the canal back then. . On the west side of Qingguo Lane is Pilingyi, which shows that Qingguo Lane has a unique geographical location. Therefore, Qingguo Lane was also the residence of many celebrities in Changzhou in the early years. Such as Sheng Xuanhuai, Liu Guojun, etc., and Shi Liang, one of the Seven Gentlemen, should also live in Qingguo Lane. Qingguo Lane was a symbol of Changzhou’s prosperity back then.
Only in recent years, some residential buildings in Qingguo Lane have been demolished, and as a symbol of old Changzhou, they have not been well protected. After demolishing and building, the cultural heritage of old Changzhou will be lost. I hope that everyone can promote it more and protect Qingguo Lane with historical value, so that our descendants can still experience the prosperous life of our ancestors and appreciate the charm of old Changzhou.
Qingguo Lane should be protected
