Historical origin:

The custom of Shi Gandang originated from the worship of lingshi in ancient times, and experienced the embryonic stage of early Shi Gandang, the variation stage and the prosperity stage of Shi Gandang. The earliest record of Shi Gandang in the history books is the Urgent Chapter of the Western Han Dynasty: "Learn from the tiger, Shi Gandang, and the dragon will never die." In the Song Dynasty, a stone carving in the fifth year of the Tang Dynasty (770) was unearthed in Putian, Fujian Province, with the words "Shi Gandang, ghost town, disaster suppression, official happiness, people's health, prosperity with the same religion, ceremony and music".

The Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Republic of China were the heyday of Shi Gandang's belief, from burying stones in town houses to building stones or walls at the bridge head. Shi Gandang on Mount Tai is the inheritance and development of Shi Gandang, and the combination of Dongyue worship and Lingshi worship.

After the development of "Shi Gandang" into "Shi Gandang of Mount Tai", it has evolved from the original town house to the functions of treating diseases, ward off evil spirits and preventing wind, and its distribution is also wider, with Mount Tai as the monument of Mount Tai Shi Gandang. It can be said that where there are Chinese people, they gradually spread to all parts of the world.
