Historical Evolution of Mahayana Jade Buddha Temple

Mahayana Jade Buddha Temple is located in Handan City, Hebei Province, formerly known as Dacheng Temple. Founded in the Southern and Northern Dynasties, it has a history of 1400 years. Handan, the capital of ancient Zhao, located at the junction of Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan provinces, felt the protection of Tianlong by the piety of four people, so it can be passed down through the ages. After Sui, Tang and Five Dynasties, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, Dacheng Temple still flourished. It once occupied an area of more than 40 mu, with all kinds of buildings, halls and museums. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by war after the July 7th Incident. However, according to the records of Handan County, as of 1942, there were still more than 300 monks living here.

In 1980s, China was carrying out social reform and opening up. The government approved the reconstruction of Dacheng Temple as a place for the four disciples to practice sutras and worship Buddha. The new temple is located in Nanyuan, an ancient town with rich national culture, in the north of Sijiqing Village. Sijiqing Village donated 30 mu of land, and the government approved another 30 mu, ***60 mu, 1994 to start construction. This place is close to Zhaomei Pool in the east and five mountains in the west, which can be described as a treasure trove of geomantic omen. The newly-built Dacheng Temple has a large scale, rigorous layout and red palace walls. The main buildings in the temple are Ursa Mahayana Hall, Tianwang Hall, Guanyin Hall, Sleeping Buddha Hall, Tibetan Scripture Building, as well as Buddhist Museum, Zen Temple and Bible Reading Hall. Collect three Buddhist scriptures and 28 inscriptions.

1995, Buddhists in China in Myanmar donated 18 medium-sized jade buddhas. 1997, this temple welcomed three large-scale jade buddhas and more than 200 miniature jade buddhas, which are now enshrined in the Hall of Mahayana, the Hall of Sleeping Buddha and the Hall of Maitreya. There are many jade buddhas in this temple, which is the only one in China. At the suggestion of Master Kuanren of the Chinese Buddhist Association, the temple was renamed as "Mahayana Jade Buddha Temple in Handan". With the successive placement of jade buddhas, the incense in the temple is increasing day by day, and the number of worshippers is flooding in, which is expected to become one of the centers for promoting Buddhist culture in Handan and even the Central Plains.

In 2007, the second phase expansion project of Dacheng Temple in Handan City was officially launched, and the project will build a reclining Buddha Hall and a Buddhist Scripture Building. The second phase project of Dacheng Temple mainly includes the construction of the reclining Buddha Hall, the Tibetan Scripture Building and the transformation of the surrounding environment of the temple. This project will take about one year. After completion, the Sleeping Buddha Hall and the Tibetan Scripture Building are antique buildings in Ming and Qing Dynasties, with a total construction area of 2,000 square meters.

On the morning of June 5438+1October 65438+March, 2008 (the sixth day of April in the lunar calendar), the Buddhist Association of Hebei Province held a 7-day "Opening Ceremony of China-Mahayana Jade Buddha Temple" in Handan. Jing Hui, Vice President of Chinese Buddhist Association, Minghai, Vice President of Hebei Buddhist Association, Zhang Xingtang, Deputy Director of Hebei Provincial Department of Religious Affairs, and leaders of Handan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government attended the event. The opening ceremony was mainly performed by elders, great virtues and wizards from various mountains.

Today, Mahayana Jade Buddha Temple has become the Buddhist cultural center of ancient Zhao and a tourist attraction in southern Hebei. The temple has beautiful scenery, lush trees, beautiful scenery, lingering French sounds and dusk drums, which is admired by the majority of believers.
