Gem flower

[Alias] Echeveria, lotus palm, cactus.

[Scientific name] Echeveriapeacockii

[Family and genus] Crassulaceae, Echeveria genus.

[Form] Most solitary evergreen succulent plants. The branches are prostrate and the stems are shortened. The leaves are obovate, pointed at the apex, plump and juicy, light green with purple halo, and white powder on the surface. The branches and leaves are clustered like lotus flowers. From April to June, total cymes appear. Echeveria glauca (E.glauca), a plant of the same genus, has blue-green leaves, obovate shape, rounded apex, but with an obvious tip. The leaves are covered with wax powder and are closely arranged in a rosette shape.

[Habit]Original from Mexico. It likes warmth and dryness, likes plenty of light, but also tolerates semi-shade. It has no strict soil requirements, is drought-tolerant, likes sandy soil, and is not cold-tolerant.

[Propagation] Propagation by cuttings. You can cut off the side branches with the top leaf clusters at any time, remove the lower leaves, and then insert them into plain sandy soil. They will take root in about a week. Leaf cuttings can also be used. When inserting, place the leaves face up and lay them flat on the moist soil. After 5 to 7 days, small leaf clusters will grow at the base of the leaves, and new roots will grow at the same time.

[Cultivation] The potting soil should be garden soil mixed with coarse sand or charcoal powder to facilitate drainage. Change the pot once a year from March to April, and add some phosphate fertilizer at the same time. Top dressing is not usually needed. When watering, you should pay attention to the principle of not drying or watering, but watering thoroughly. In winter, water should be controlled. During the growing season, the flower pots should be placed in a ventilated and light-transmitting place. In winter, they should be kept indoors to keep the room temperature at about 10°C and provide sufficient light.

[Use] Potted foliage. After the flower spikes sprout, the leaves will loosen and should be cut off in time.
