From a metaphysical point of view, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
Metaphysics is a philosophical thought and trend that emerged in the Wei and Jin Dynasties. It is the study and explanation of Laozi, Zhuangzi and Zhouyi. The word "Xuan" here originates from a sentence in "Laozi": "Mysterious is mysterious, and it is the door to all mysteries." Metaphysics is the mainstream of thought that replaced the classics of the Han Dynasty during the Wei and Jin Dynasties, that is, the "Xuanyuan School". It is based on the "ancestors of Laozi and Zhuangzi" and calls "Laozi", "Zhuangzi" and "Book of Changes" the "Three Mysteries". Given that China’s social structure, economic foundation, political system, and social values ??remained basically unchanged from the Han Dynasty to the Jin Dynasty, it was impossible for a metaphysics that opposed Confucianism to emerge out of thin air in the ideological field and guide the ideological form at that time. In fact, those who were considered "metaphysics" by later generations thought that they were devoted to the study of Confucian classics and had made many achievements.
The name "metaphysics" appeared after the Wei and Jin Dynasties. Since Confucianism was the sole focus on Confucianism, Confucianism has always had a tradition of talking about metaphysics, and regarded ethical principles as the way of nature. Later Buddhism was also part of the discussion of metaphysics during the two Jin Dynasties. Metaphysics cannot simply be called "new Taoism".
