Ya'an is a place I have been to and liked very much. I would like to send you an introduction to several scenic spots for your reference.
Wangyu Ancient Town
Wangyu Ancient Town is located 34 kilometers from the southern end of Ya'an City. It is an important node on the "Three Mountains Tourism Circle (Emei Mountain - Wawu Mountain - Zhougong Mountain)" , was an important stop on the Southern Silk Road and Linqiong Ancient Road entering Chengdu in the past. It is surrounded by mountains and rivers and is named "Wangyu" because the main buildings are grouped on a huge boulder that looks like a cat looking at fish in the river. The ancient town was built in the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty, more than 400 years ago. In ancient times, it was an important stop on the Southern Silk Road and the Ancient Tea Horse Road.
Old Street
Wangyu Old Street is a long and narrow straight-shaped street, with a bluestone road running through the entire street. The road surface has been polished by the years until it shines faintly. It reminds people of the merchants and caravans that used to travel on the Ancient Tea Horse Road. Both sides of the street are all wooden-structure blue-tiled houses and stilted buildings. The exquisite corrugations, wall corners, window lattice and carvings on the column bases reveal the prosperity of the past. These buildings used to be government offices, banks, pawnshops, pharmacies, embroidery buildings, hotels, restaurants, tea shops and theaters, but now most of them have become residential buildings. In ancient times, there were long stone staircases with gates at both ends of the old street, which could reach the river and connect with the new street. To enter the old street, one must climb the stone staircase to the mountainside, which shows that it is easy to defend but difficult to attack. It was the need of the ancient market town to prevent banditry.
Tianleo
Due to terrain restrictions, the overall shape of Wangyu Old Street is long and narrow. The buildings are connected by long streets, and most of them are divided into shops and houses or divided by patios. The front and rear have different functions and have the characteristics of a composite type. The facade of a house is mostly composed of door panels, slides and door pivot holes. The floors of the houses have a certain height difference, and some doorways are equipped with several stone steps. The steps are connected to various holes in the street to form a complete drainage system. Ya'an was known as "Tian Liao" in ancient times. There was a lot of rain in the area. Most of the residences used the four-joint-head style, also known as the "four water returns to the pool" style. The eaves on all four sides are connected. When it rains, pedestrians can walk around under the eaves. Walking up the mountain from the old street, you can see that some houses are built on the hillside. Compared with the residential buildings in the old street, the courtyards are larger in scale and contain a large number of exquisite wood and stone carvings. Wangyu Ancient Town later became the location for the filming of the movie "Defendant Shan Gang Ye".
Zhougong River
Wangyu Ancient Town is surrounded by mountains and rivers, and the ancient post road meanders through it; the Zhougong River runs through it, and the mountains and rivers are suitable for it. These land and water routes were the main channels for Wangyu to communicate with the outside world in ancient times, and were also the economic lifeline for Wangyu's prosperity in ancient times.
In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, Wangyu formed an independent commodity trading town with relatively complete public facilities, and formed the custom of going to the market on the first, fourth and seventh day of the lunar calendar. , every time there is a rush for business, it is very lively. Many public buildings in the area were built at that time, and Wangyu Ancient Town prospered as a result. After liberation, the ancient post road was abandoned, and the back of the Zhougong River was also cut off due to water conservancy construction. The Yawang Highway on the other side of the Zhougong River became the only channel for Wangyu to communicate with the outside world.
Although Wangyu Ancient Town prospered because of the post road, it also embodies the characteristics of traditional Chinese Feng Shui concepts in site selection and morphological structure. "Yi Si Qian, leisurely Nanshan", Wangyu Ancient Town is located on Wangyu Stone, backed by mountains and facing water, with the Zhougong River crossing below and surrounded by mountains, which is exactly what the saying "pillows mountains, surrounds water, faces the screen" explain.
Quiet ancient town
The origin of the name
According to information, a long time ago, tea and horse trafficking was booming, and some brothers started from Ya'an. One road reaches Wangyu, then goes over Ma'er Mountain and Yingjing to Kangding. At that time, a shrewd old woman opened a simple tea shop on this huge rock of hundreds of square meters, where passing merchants and Brother Beier could drink tea and rest. The late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty were the heyday of the town. Some people began to live here, building houses and temples, as well as wineries, taverns, pharmacies, embroidery buildings, silver shops, hotels, theaters, blacksmith shops, etc., and opened a township government office. , formed a market town, named "Wangyu".
Stories and Legends of the Ancient Town
There are many stories in Wangyu Ancient Town. Legend has it that when Nuwa was patching up the sky, a sword fell into the Zhougong River next to Wangyu. Later, the sword became Yayu today. What's even more amazing is that there is a small bone spur in the shape of a sword on Yayu's head, which is crystal clear.
It is also said that in the Qing Dynasty, Li Jingfu, a scholar from Ya'an, offered Ya fish as a tribute to Cixi. After eating it, the Empress Dowager said: "The meat of dragon and phoenix is ??probably hard to compare with!" Therefore, the "Ya fish" in the Zhougong River at the foot of Wangyu Ancient Town became famous far and wide. At that time, there were a lot of elegant fish in the Zhougong River. Fish were swimming in the river in groups and could be seen on the boulders.
Red History
At the entrance of Wangyu town, there is a stone monument, which marks the red history of Wangyu ancient town. It was the winter of 1935, the 24th year of the Republic of China. The Central Red Army once visited Wangyu. After the Fourth Red Army entered Wangyu, they set up a propaganda platform with a table in Huoshaoba, Guchang Town, and promoted the mobilization of "attacking the local tyrants" and "dividing the fields" and establishing the Soviet regime. Later, due to the attack by Xue Yue's troops of the Central Army of the Kuomintang, the Red Army was forced to move. It once launched sniper battles at Jiangjunpo and Tutuya in Wangyu Township. The stone monument at the entrance of the town is the monument to the former site of the Red Army meeting.
Wangyu is located deep in the mountains, is small in scale, and is not well known to people. Like other ancient villages, most of the young people here have gone out to work, leaving only some old people and children. They live a leisurely and unconcerned life, appearing quiet and peaceful. There is no trace of the bustle of the Tea Horse Road post station in the past, let alone The noisy instrument of the modern city. It is this integration of simple folk customs and quaint old streets that has become a highlight of Wangyu.
