Enshi is one of the 13 prefecture-level administrative regions in Hubei Province, located in the southwest of Hubei Province, where Hubei, Hunan and Chongqing provinces meet. It borders Qianjiang District of Chongqing in the west, Wanzhou District of Chongqing in the north, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Hunan Province in the south, Shennongjia Forest Area in the northeast and Yichang City in the east.
Enshi Prefecture has a forest coverage rate of nearly 70% and enjoys the titles of "Linhai in Western Hubei", "Chinese Medicine Library", "Tobacco Kingdom" and "Selenium Capital of the World". Quanzhou is an important clean energy base in Central China, with theoretical reserves of hydropower resources of 6 million kilowatts, exploitable capacity of 5 million kilowatts and wind power resources of 3 million kilowatts.
Enshi natural environment
Enshi belongs to the humid climate in the middle subtropical monsoon mountain area. Due to the natural barrier effect of Daba Mountain and Wushan Mountain in the north, the cold air force invading the south is greatly reduced. The climate changes vertically with the topography, which affects the redistribution of light, heat and water. Generally, it is rainy and hot in the same season, with more summer and less winter, abundant rainfall and deep mountains and valleys. The mainstream Qingjiang River in China originated from Qiyue Mountain in Lichuan.
The basic feature of Enshi landform is stepped landform, and karst landform is very developed in the area. Due to the intermittent activity of neotectonic movement, a large area uplifted into mountains, and local subsidence and sedimentation formed multi-level Iraqi surface and intermountain valley faulted basins.
