Why is Jiaotai Hall the Dragon Cave in Beijing?

The Dragon Cave in the Forbidden City

It is determined that the capital will reach the sky, and with abundant vitality, it is necessary to incorporate vitality into the central point of the intersection of yin and yang of heaven and earth-that is, the point mentioned by Feng Shui. The place where this vitality is hidden is actually the place where the mountain stops, that is, from the mountain thousands of miles away to the underground, and the mountain is regarded as Long Mai, then the hidden place of the mountain is naturally Longdong. Vitality stays in the center of capital, and capital is always angry. 2. 1 point is the intersection of heaven and earth, mountains and rivers, yin and yang, and everything is metaplasia.

Qi is the core proposition in Feng Shui thought, and the point where qi condenses is acupoint. In Ming Dynasty, Miao Xiyong's "Buried Sutra Wing" was named: "Floating mountains stop gas gathering, so they are called points." It means that the place where the mountain stops is the place where the gas condenses, that is, the cave, and the mountain can be ventilated, that is, where the mountain stops, the gas gathers into the cave. The point of view that the place where qi gathers is a point originates from the theory of "everything is born by the point temperature" put forward in the Buried Sutra of Mr. Kate by Wuzi in the Qing Dynasty [7]: "Internal qi generates, external qi forms, internal and external factors multiply, and Feng Shui becomes its own. Internal qi produces hair, and the point temperature is everything; When the external atmosphere is shaped, the image of landscape is formed. Anger sprouted from the inside, and the image changed from the outside, which actually multiplied. " The "point" mentioned by Qing Wuzi has two meanings: one is the place where the internal qi originates, that is, the place where the internal qi is angry. With life, the point will be warm and everything will come into being, which is the essence of the point; The second is the formation of external qi. The so-called "external gas formation" means that the trend and ups and downs of mountains and rivers are all condensed by gas, and mountains and rivers are the "external gas" of caves. Only by multiplying inside and outside can Feng Shui become a family of its own. "Internal qi is the root and external qi is the shape", so external qi is very important when determining acupoints. The so-called "dragon is dominated by pulse, and acupoints are dominated by direction" is about the external trend of mountains and rivers, which is the main factor that constitutes the order of master and slave, and determines the dignity of acupoints. The ancients often looked for caves around the water, because caves were used to hide anger, and anger sometimes lurked underground with the mountains and sometimes flowed on the surface with the water veins. When the wind blows, the gas dissipates. Looking for caves is looking for life. Caves are for people, whether they are dead or alive. Therefore, life can only stay in auspicious geography. Lucky geography must have complete mountains and rivers, and people can build tombs or cities, so that life in caves can always be used by people. Beijing is built in the form of three walls, namely, the palace, the imperial city and the inner city. The palace is located in the center of the city, surrounded by the tall walls of the imperial city and the inner city, because the caves are in the palace, and the tall walls are stacked one after another, and the caves are hidden in them and will never spread out again.

Acupoints are places where yin and yang merge and condense, that is, places where life is nurtured, and places where yin and yang meet. Yin and Yang originally originated from Tai Chi, that is, a chaotic qi. The ancients believed that the birth of everything was entirely due to the generation of yin and yang. With yin and yang, there is heaven and earth, with heaven and earth, there are four seasons, and everything changes. Its formula is as Lao Tzu said: "Tao gives birth to one, two, three and everything." [8] "Heaven and earth are interlinked" and "Yin and Yang intersect" produce vitality, and the place to accommodate vitality is the cave. 2.2 Jiaotai Hall is the acupoint of the Forbidden City.

After knowing what acupoints are, I will explore where the acupoints in the Forbidden City are hidden. According to the above, the conditions for summarizing the main points are: (1) Surrounded by mountains and rivers; (2) Surrounded by city walls; (3) the traffic between heaven and earth; (4) Yin and Yang intersect; (5) concealment.

Wanshou Mountain and Jinshui River in the Forbidden City are both artificially built, that is to say, the end of the mountain becomes Long Mai, and the place where water condenses becomes a cave, which makes it have the function of letting the mountain condense here and let the water meet here, which conforms to the condition that there are mountains in the north and mountains in front are surrounded by water, so that life can be locked between Wanshou Mountain and Jinshui River. The Forbidden City was built between Long Live Mountain and Jinshui River, and the Imperial City was built outside the Forbidden City. Both the inner city and the outer city are built outside the imperial city, surrounded by layers of walls, so that life can stay in the Forbidden City forever.

With these two conditions, I still can't find the location of the acupuncture points in the Forbidden City. Most importantly, the acupoints in the Forbidden City must meet the conditions of "heaven and earth are interlinked", "yin and yang intersect" and "hiding". According to the data, the building of Gan Qing Palace is the acupoint of the Forbidden City, and Jiaotai Hall is the acupoint of the Forbidden City.

The whole building complex of Gan Qing Palace is located on the central axis and consists of six gates and three palaces, namely Gan Qing Palace, Jiaotai Palace, Kunning Palace, Gan Qing Gate, Kunning Gate, Rijing Gate, Yuehua Gate, Long Fu Gate and Jinghe Gate. These buildings form a closed space, commonly known as the "harem". The naming of the whole building complex is like a process of the formation of the universe. The sky is the sun and the Kun is the earth. What is implied is the idea of "Yin and Yang of heaven and earth".

In the layout of the last three palaces, Gan Qing Palace is located in the south, Kunning Palace is located in the north, and Jiaotai Hall is in between, which is a place to communicate with heaven and earth and conforms to the principle of "heaven and earth are interlinked". According to the theory of geomantic omen, what is done for the sky is Yang, and what is done for the earth is Yin. The place where heaven and earth communicate is the place where Yin and Yang meet, but it is not as simple as imagined. Among the three halls of the former dynasty and the three palaces of the later dynasty, only the Jiaotai Hall and the Taihe Hall are hung with Xuanyuan mirrors. What does this mean?

In front of the Jiaotai Hall, there is a clean palace representing the sky (Yang), followed by the Kunning Palace representing the earth (Yin). Jiaotai Hall refers to the intersection of heaven (dry) and earth (Kun) here, which makes heaven and earth peaceful, and refers to Clean Palace and Kunning Palace. The Xuanyuan mirror hanging in Jiaotai Hall symbolizes the intersection of heaven and earth. The meanings of the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the Hall of Zhonghe and the Hall of Baohe come from the cloud in the Book of Changes: "The road changes, and each lives his own life. It is good to keep security and harmony. " The meaning of "Taihe" was interpreted by Zhu as: "Dahe (Taihe) is also the intersection of Yin and Yang." Therefore, both Jiaotai Hall and Taihe Hall are hung with Xuanyuan mirrors, symbolizing the harmony of Yin and Yang, which means that Yin and Yang meet.

Jiaotai Hall implies the meaning of "copulation", and the main purpose of acupoints is to know that acupoints are places where yin and yang copulate, because only in this way can there be life. There are two meanings: one is sexual intercourse between men and women, and the other is sexual intercourse between heaven and earth. "Yi" says that line is the father of heaven and Kun is the mother of the earth, so "making love" means the intersection of yin and yang of heaven and earth, and everything becomes alcohol, such as copulation between men and women. Jiaotai Hall was built between Gan Qing Palace and Kunning Palace. Its function is to provide a place for the emperor and the queen to have intercourse, and to undertake the responsibility of carrying on the family line. It not only symbolizes the intercourse of yin and yang between heaven and earth, but also refers to the intercourse between men and women, namely the emperor and queen. This idea is the philosophical thought that heaven and earth, yin and yang, men and women are the unity of all things in the universe.

Jiaotai Hall also conforms to the principle that the dragon cave is hidden deep, and the dragon cave must be hidden in the most secret place in order to achieve the purpose of not being blown by the wind and not being rained. Looking at all the secret buildings located on the central axis of the Forbidden City, only Jiaotai Hall is worthy of the name. Because the central axis is the symbol of the celestial axis and imperial power, the dragon cave must be located on the central axis to worship dignity. Jiaotai Hall is located in the backyard, but it is not as exposed as Taihe Hall. It is located in a closed building complex in Gan Qing Palace, surrounded by buildings.

When there were no mountains, the Ming people built a mountain, named Long Live Mountain, without water. The Ming people dug a river called Jinshui River. The mountain is like Xuanwu Town, and the water is like Jincheng. They searched for water along the mountain, introduced Tianshou Mountain Long Mai into the Forbidden City, and set Longdong in Jiaotai Hall. The acupoints of the Forbidden City are hidden in the Jiaotai Hall, which is the gathering place of Wanli in Long Mai, and Tianshou Mountain in the north is the main peak of China, so the Longdong in Jiaotai Hall has become the Longdong in China, which is in the second place, dedicated to honor and bearing the great vitality of heaven.

The ancient geomantic architecture in China seeks the balance with nature in a beautiful environment with mountains and water, which contains rich genius and wisdom of dialectical thinking. It applies the organic whole concept of the evolution and development of things to the architectural rules and operates under the condition of strictly following the ancient etiquette system, so the ancient architecture in China presents the static beauty of balance and harmony.
