Tao Ancestral Hall There are three ancestral halls established by the Tao family in Tuen Mun District: the first Tao Ancestral Hall is located between Tianziwei and Xinqing Village and was established in the 57th year of Kangxi. (1718), but the ancestral hall is now used as a factory building; the second one is called Dingshan Ancestral Hall, which was built on the left side of Tao Ancestral Hall. The year of its founding is unknown, but it is roughly the same history as Tao Ancestral Hall. The ancestral hall enshrines the ancestors of the Tao clan and ancestors of the clan; the third one is the Wuliutang Tao ancestral hall, built in 1971. The ancestral hall was built because the Tao ancestral hall had been converted into a factory, so another auspicious site was found for reconstruction. The establishment of Wuliutang Tao Ancestral Hall also commemorates Tao Qian (Mr. Wuliu). Ancestral halls are of course built to worship deceased ancestors and allow the entire clan to collectively participate in ancestor worship activities. If some important issues arise that need to be discussed together, the ancestral hall also becomes a place for the clan to meet and make decisions. Some ancestral halls have become places for clan members to hold wedding banquets and schools for educating their children.
