Phoenix originated in the early Ming Dynasty. It is said that when Phoenix began to build the city wall, the skillful craftsman of the city saw a beautiful phoenix falling from the top of Gu Bei, which is backed by the city, and immediately moved the engineering line put by the skillful craftsman to the dam gate (i.e. Phoenix head) of the city being built. At that time, the official who supervised the urban construction reported the matter to the court. The court was very happy to hear the news. They think this is a treasure trove of geomantic omen to nourish the people. On the spot, they granted permission to build a city wall here, and ordered many times to build a city on the mountain according to the posture of Phoenix preparing to fly on the mountain, showing the characteristics of majestic and impregnable.
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Phoenix was a commercial and military town in northern China with a population of nearly 10,000. At that time, there were many businesses in Phoenix, and the people on the street were sweating and bustling. At that time, there were many temples in the city, including 18 temples in Gushan, Guangbei, which burned incense all the year round. After hundreds of years of historical evolution, ancient buildings in the city are rare. The existing ancient sites in Beigushan include the Thousand Buddha Cave in the east, the Temple of Wealth in the west and the rain platform on the top of the mountain. Several pairs of stone lions and stone tablets beside the mountain gate have witnessed the vicissitudes of the times.
