During the Tang and Song Dynasties, Buyi ancestors moved from Heiyang Daqing (now Guiyang) to the banks of Qinghe River. During the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, Matou Village, Xinzhai Village, Dianzhai Village, Yangfang Village, Tongmu Village, Anjiazhai Village, Shuitou Village and Pingzhai Village gradually formed. The so-called "Zhong family" is also called "planting family". A folk proverb in Guizhou says: "Miao family lives in the hill, Zhong family lives in Shuitou, and Hakka lives in the street". It is the name given by the ancients to the Buyi ancestors who grew rice for a living.
Many dwellings in Matouzhai are dry-fence quadrangles and three-way courtyards, which are generally mixed structures with buckets and beams, with compartments in front and halls (or walls) in the back. There are three, five and seven main rooms. The doors and windows are decorated with exquisite wood carvings. The waist door is added to the main entrance, and the front of the left carriage is built with a double door. Most of them are auspicious patterns such as dragons and phoenixes and the word "ten thousand". Buyi people, on the other hand, have a unique explanation for some carving patterns. For example, they think that the word "Wan" symbolizes water wheel flower or crab flower, all of which are related to water, which fully embodies the water cultural tradition formed by Buyi people living in water since ancient times. Matouzhai has 208 households 1 126 residents, most of whom are Buyi people. The villagers built houses according to local conditions and built wooden houses halfway up the mountain. The ancient trees on the mountain are towering and lush. Surrounded by Qinghe River in front of the village, the stone arch bridge spans the river. Uchikoji village is paved with pebbles in the shape of "people" The quadrangles are mostly paved with bluestone, which is antique. On the sixth day of the sixth lunar month, tens of thousands of Buyi compatriots dressed in festive costumes celebrated the "June 6th" song in Matouzhai. Matouzhai is the residence of "Wozijiang and other places in Yuan Dynasty" and the hometown of Song Longji, the biggest leader of anti-Yuan movement in Yuan Dynasty. This is also the location of the "Diwo Wharf" in the Ming Dynasty. The former site of Diwo General Government (commonly known as "Great Nagato") and the former site of Song Longji's former residence. There are 97 houses, 2 temples, more than 50 meters of city walls, stone arch bridge 1 seat, theater 1 seat, ancient roads 1 seat, 2 ancient wells, and 25 red army slogans.
Matouzhai has become an important scenic spot in Xianghuo Rock, a scenic spot in Guizhou province.
