Sakurajima location

Sakurajima is located in Kagoshima Prefecture, Kyushu.

Sakurajima is an active volcanic island, located in Kagoshima Bay in the south of Kyushu, Japan. Adjacent to Dayu Islands in the east and Jinjiang Bay in the west, it is about 4 kilometers away from Kagoshima city center. It is a compound active volcano with an area of about 77 square kilometers, consisting of Beiyue, Zhongyue and Nanyue.

Sakurajima has erupted more than 60 times since it was recorded in 708 AD. The last large-scale eruption occurred in February 2023 14. Sakurajima is about 8 kilometers away from Kagoshima city center.
