Zhou Dunyi was born in a scholarly family. His father Zhou Fucheng (also known as Huai Cheng) was born as a scholar in the eighth year of Dazhong Xiangfu (AD 115). He was once the magistrate of Guiling County, Hezhou (now Hexian County, Guangxi) and later gave advice to doctors. In the first year of Tianxi in the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 117), Zhou Dunyi, the son of Zhou Fucheng, then the magistrate of Guiling County, was born in the county government of Guiling County at that time. Since childhood, Zhou Dunyi "believed in the past and was good at righteousness, and honed by famous festivals". He studied in Guiling as a teenager, and then took the imperial examination in Guiling. In the ninth year of Tiansheng (AD 131), Zhou Dunyi was 14 years old and his father died of illness. Zhou Dunyi is the author of Zhou Ziquan's Book. Zhou Dunyi once opened the Lianxi Academy under the Lotus Peak, known as Mr. Lianxi in the world. Lianxi Academy was his lecture platform, and his theory had a great influence on the development of Neo-Confucianism in the future. Zhou Dunyi is the originator of systematically discussing the origin of the world as a philosophical issue.
