Chongsheng Temple and Its Three Pagodas

Chongsheng Temple, bordering Erhai Lake in the east and Cangshan Mountain in the west, is located one kilometer north of the ancient city of Dali, Yunnan, at the foot of Cangshan Mountain and on the shore of Erhai Lake. Rows of buildings, magnificent, can be called one of the oldest and most magnificent buildings in southern China, and it is a symbol of ancient Yunnan culture. After the completion of Chongsheng Temple, it became the center of Buddhist activities in Nanzhao and Dali periods. Nine of the twenty-two emperors in Dali became monks in Chongsheng Temple, making it the "first temple of Miaoxiang Buddhism" highly regarded by Southeast Asian countries. In A.D. 1056, the king of Myanmar came to Chongsheng Temple twice to see off the tooth of Buddha, and Duan Silian, the emperor of Dali, presented the jade Buddha in the temple. Jin Yong's martial arts novel Tianlong Babu is called Tianlong Temple. Chongsheng Temple was once famous for its five heavy objects (Three Pagodas, Nanzhao Bell, Yutong Guanyin Statue, Three Golden Statues and the "Buddha Capital" plaque), but Chongsheng Temple and the other four heavy objects were destroyed in wars and natural disasters. On April 22, 2005, the reconstruction project of Chongsheng Temple with a total investment of 654.38+82 million yuan was completed. It belongs to the Three Pagodas Cultural Tourism Zone of Chongsheng Temple, a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction.

Because it is built on the mountain, it rises gradually from the gate. When you look at the hall next door, you should look up, which makes people admire the Buddha infinitely and feel small at the same time. This is obviously different from the buildings in the plain area. Even if the hall is built on a high platform, it is difficult for the buildings in the plain area to have such momentum. Especially in front of the Ursa Major Hall, it was very shocking. The Raft Tuo Monastery is a replica of the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City. Double-eave nine-bay, three-story abutment, hall width 5 1.7 meters. Magnificent, magnificent. It is the most famous monument in Dali, one of the tallest existing towers in China, and the largest rafting Mona Hall in China. Over the past 1000 years, the three pagodas of Chongsheng Temple have stood tall after many storms and strong earthquakes, showing the superb architectural skills and wisdom of ancient craftsmen in China.

It is said that the "sage" of Chongsheng Temple refers to "Holy Guanyin". Buddhism tantra prevailed in Dali during the period of Dali Kingdom (937- 1253), and Guanyin Bodhisattva was a very important one of Dali tantra. At present, the main statue of Chongsheng Temple is "Ayiye Guanyin", which means "Holy Guanyin". Is it because of this that Chongsheng Temple is on the high platform behind the Ursa Major Hall, and there is also a treasure hall-Ayiye Guanyin Hall. This is different from Bailin Temple in Zhao County, Hebei Province. The most magnificent building of Berlin Zen is Mahayana Hall, which is in the innermost part of the whole temple and there are no other halls behind it. In Chongsheng Temple, there is Guanyin Hall behind Daxiong Hall. In the Guanyin Temple, there is a statue of Guanyin with a female face and a male body, which is said to be the first Guanyin statue introduced to China.

Chongsheng Temple is divided into two parts. The second half is the rebuilt Chongsheng Temple, which is relatively large in scale. The first part is three towers and some ancillary buildings, all of which are relatively small in scale.

The three pagodas of Chongsheng Temple consist of this big one and two small ones. This tower is called Chihiro Tower.

The distance between Chihiro Tower and the two small towers in the north and south is 70 meters, showing a tripartite confrontation. Chihiro Tower is 69.13m high and 9.9m wide at the bottom. It is a square hollow brick tower with dense eaves and grade 16. It is one of the highest pagodas in China. It is a typical Tang Dynasty building with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi 'an, and it is similar to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi 'an in shape. The inner wall of the tower is vertical up and down, with wooden stairs. When Xu Xiake arrived in Dali, he still saw the "Three Pagodas" in front of the Temple, towering on all sides. In the west, there is a bell tower opposite the three towers, which is extremely magnificent. Behind the building is Daxiong Hall, and behind it is "Jade Pillar Guanyin Hall, bronze statue, three feet high."

1961On March 4th, the Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple were announced by the State Council as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

This tour, due to the tight time, coupled with the search for lost companions, this trip to the Three Towers is really too hasty, just a quick glance, and some regrets.

I hurried there because my companion was behind me. Seeing the narrator wearing Bai costumes, I was curious and prepared to take pictures, but I was caught. Remembering that this is the boundary of ethnic minorities, I was too scared to take pictures easily during the whole tour. It's disgusting to sit and ask if you are allowed to take pictures before each photo.
