Longshan is commonly known as Baling Mountain, so named because it is composed of Badaoling Mountains. It is located in the northwest of Jingzhou City, starting from Yangchang Xinwan Village in the east, Deng Family Ancestral Hall in Xinchang Village in the west, Anbeishu in Tailor Township in the north, and Mapao Spring in the south, covering an area of ??about 40 square kilometers. This mountain is called a mountain, but it is actually a hill. It is the remnant of Jingshan Mountain, with a maximum altitude of 103.3 meters (Jingzhou City is about 30 meters).
Due to the high terrain here, it has been regarded as a geomantic treasure land by the past dynasties, and has been chosen as a mausoleum by princes and dignitaries, so there are many ancient tombs. According to the "Jianling County Chronicle" published by the Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty, the tombs of King Chuzhuang, King Chukang and 11 vassal kings of the Ming Dynasty are all in the mountains. According to ground surveys, there are 372 earthen mounds here, most of which are earthen tombs from the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period.
This hill is called Baling Mountain, why is it also called Longshan? Legend has it that when Guan Yu was guarding Jingzhou, he discovered that Cao Cao was sending troops from Xiangyang to capture Jingzhou City in Nanjun. Guan Yu immediately ordered his troops and set out in two groups to attack Cao Jun. Guan Yu himself led a group of troops out of Jingzhou City and marched from west to north. On this day, Guan Yu led his troops to a place about 15 kilometers west of the city. Suddenly, the weather suddenly changed, with dark clouds, strong winds, flying sand and rocks, and then heavy rain, and three feet of water rising from the flat ground, making it difficult for the team to move. Guan Yu urgently ordered the three armies to stop advancing and move to higher ground. Guan Yu rode a red rabbit and a horse and commanded the troops in the water. Suddenly, he felt his eyes light up, and an old man with white hair and childish face appeared in the red light. Guan Yu saluted and asked: "Excuse me, my husband, my army was trapped just after arriving here. Is there any evil spirit at work?"
The old man smiled slightly and said unhurriedly: "General, don't panic. This place is not caused by demons. It is my dogs who are creating the pond. They want to return to the sea." When Guan Yu heard this, he quickly said, "My father, I heard that our army will be blocked by the water and cannot get out." He sighed and said, "I think I, Guan Yu, was a hero all his life. Now he is trapped by the flood. He cannot lead his troops to defend the enemy. Jingzhou is in danger!"
Seeing Guan Yu's anxious look, the old man said sincerely: "General, I am this old dragon who wants to return to the sea. Seeing that you are so loyal and loyal, I am willing to give up my return date and practice for another eight hundred years. However, I need to borrow the general's belongings for use."
Guan Yu Said: "As long as we can overcome the water resistance and ensure the safe passage to Jingzhou, Guan is willing to sacrifice anything." Old Long said: "I only need to borrow the general's two beards."
When Guan Yu heard this, he was heartbroken. I think I usually value my beard very seriously, but now that I have to give it away, I feel a little reluctant to give it away. However, in order to overcome the water resistance, I had to reluctantly give up. Thinking of this, he pulled out his sword, cut off two beards, and handed them to the old dragon. The old dragon took over his beard, turned into a red light, and blinked away. At this time, the sky opened and the clouds dispersed, and a long hill appeared in the water. Guan Yu commanded his troops and marched northward along this hill, setting up a battlefield at Changban, defeating Cao's army, and pursued them to the gates of Xiangyang City.
When Guan Yu's master came back, he went to this long hill to report his victory to Lao Long. He built a Dragon King Temple for Lao Long and named the mountain "Longshan".
