Is Tao Yuanming's Xanadu Real?

Zhangjiajie, formerly known as Wuling County, is said to be the "Xanadu" described by Tao Yuanming. It is also known as "the last miracle of the earth" with famous world natural heritages such as Yellowstone National Park and Colorado Grand Canyon, and is one of the first geoparks in China. 1, Zhangjiajie Zhangjiajie was formerly known as Qingyan Mountain. According to legend, in the third year of Qing Daoguang, a conductor named Zhang Wancong in Yongding County took a fancy to this treasure trove of geomantic omen and wanted to keep it for himself. So he ran around and carved "Commanding Zhang Wancongjie" on eight trees. However, the next day, the local people scraped off all the eight words he had carved and re-engraved them with "Liu Hanhou and Zhang Liangjie". As we all know, Sean was the founding father of the Han Dynasty. After he helped Liu Bang, the Emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty, he resigned and retired, lived in seclusion in Qingyan Mountain, studied Taoism with Akamatsu, and was buried under Xianglu Rock in the northwest corner of Shuiwaimen. Folklore represents the wishes of the people. It can be said that the origin of Zhangjiajie's name is related to Sean, a famous figure in the Han Dynasty. After liberation, Zhangjiajie Township was established here. 1959 established Zhangjiajie State Forest Farm. 1982 With the approval of the State Council, Zhangjiajie Forest Park, the first national forest park in China, was born and Zhangjiajie Management Office was established. 1988 Zhangjiajie belongs to Wulingyuan District of Dayong City. 1994 Dayong City was renamed Zhangjiajie City. 2. Wulingyuan Zhangjiajie's core scenic spot is Wulingyuan scenic spot (county level). From 65438 to 0992, Wulingyuan was listed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO. Why is this scenery called Wulingyuan? To sum up, there are probably three reasons: Changde was called Wuling County in history, Qin belonged to central Guizhou before, and it was under the jurisdiction of Wuling County for a long period of time from the Han Dynasty. Geographically, Zhangjiajie Scenic Area is located in the remnant vein of Wuling Mountain (Wuling Mountain originated in Tongren, Guizhou). In addition, in literature, many literati's works have mentioned "Wulingyuan". For example, Wang Wei wrote, "People live in Wulingyuan, farms and gardens, just like a world"; Li Bai also wrote: "When you succeed, you will go to Wulingyuan." . They all compare Wulingyuan to a paradise. Some people even think that the "Xanadu" written in Tao Yuanming's Peach Blossom Garden is not Taoyuan County in Changde, but Wulingyuan in Zhangjiajie. At the beginning of Zhangjiajie's development, the core scenic spots belonged to Dayong, Cili and Sangzhi. 1984, Huang Yongyu, a famous painter in western Hunan, proposed to manage the three scenic spots of Tian Zi, Suoxiyu and Zhangjiajie Forest Park in a unified way and named them Wulingyuan, and the Hunan provincial government set up a Wulingyuan office for this purpose.
