Q: Amitabha! Excuse me, master, if a child or pet has bugs in his stomach and needs to take pesticides to drive them away, is this killing? What should I do? There is a similar thing. There are always many small flying insects in the bathroom or toilet, and it is inevitable to hurt a few when taking a shower or flushing the toilet. I'm very sorry about this, and I don't know if this killing is serious. Please enlighten me.
Have we learned the Five Commandments in Si Wen class? Have you learned to kill life and give up learning? How many reasons are there to kill a creature? Killing life is a pentagonal crime. Then these five reasons are: first, people, second, people's thoughts, third, starting to kill people, fourth, promoting convenience, fifth, ending life (the life of the murdered person), and killing people is a crime for five reasons. If you have this, you have committed a felony and you can't regret it. But if you kill an animal, it is a crime, and you can repent.
Look at these five conditions: whether it is a person or not, if it is a felony, it is a lesser crime if it is not a person or an animal; If you clearly know that he is a human being, or you mistakenly think that he is a human being, then the crime is even heavier; If you think he is not human, he is lighter; If there is an intention to kill, it is even heavier; If you have no intention of killing people, then be gentle; It is heavier when there is actual action, but it is lighter when there is no action; He is heavier when he is dead, and lighter when he is not dead.
If you are a bug killer, I think it is still allowed for the average person. If you know it is a bug, you have to give your life to support it. This is the way of the Great Bodhisattva, and it may be difficult for ordinary people to do it now. But this crime is not without remorse. This is a misdemeanor. Why? Because it will endanger your life.
For example, if the tiger comes, can we resist? If you are a great bodhisattva, you can give your life to feed the tiger, but it's hard to guarantee that you won't feel resentful. If it is really a tiger, if we resist or kill it, we will not be stubborn at all, but we can repent.
Commandments are really good. For example, if a robber comes to kill you with a gun, can we defend ourselves properly? If we have guns, can we kill him? Let's not talk about the realm of the Great Bodhisattva. According to the precepts, if a robber wants to kill us, the world will kill the robber. It is convenient to kill again, which is the crime of killing. We should defend ourselves, not resent it. We must kill him. If it is manslaughter, it is not a pity.
We tried to control ourselves from thinking about "killing him". If we are defending ourselves, tell him not to kill me. I just want to hurt him, or make him lose the ability to invade us, so it's not a pity. Or I didn't want to kill him, but I accidentally killed him. That's not a felony, and I won't regret it, because you don't want to kill him. Do you have the heart to kill? This heart is very important! If you decide to kill his heart, then the crime of murder is unrepentant.
Some people say, do people who study Buddhism really want to be violated? That's not true. Because if he kills you or hurts you, it will actually hurt him. This is more subtle in discipline. We can resist, but we don't want to kill anyone. We will repent later.
If you don't kill one of the five commandments, you must prove the first fruit before you can remain completely clean. Why? "The insect is four inches away from the first fruit field", and the insect is four inches away from you!
Sometimes it is inevitable to be killed by mistake. Like a parasite in the stomach, it is not a person, and the crime is relatively light. Because it hurts us, we don't kill it with pesticides just to get the children out. Because if it is not discharged, it may hurt the child. Then, I don't hate this bug. I tell it sympathetically not to kill children.
You see, it's important to have a heart! If you hate it, kill it, hate it and kill it, this heart will be different. Based on a compassionate heart, we want to save children and stop the killing of insects. If you fight insects with such a heart, it is definitely not a felony and you can't regret it.
But is there a mistake? There are some mistakes more or less. We still have to be ashamed and repent, because you can't guarantee that you didn't hurt it at all. We shouldn't pretend to know nothing, and we shouldn't make excuses for ourselves. People are most afraid of being shameless. Be a good teacher.
So my point is this: you can fight, but don't hold a grudge. You were born to save the child and save the bug from killing. If the bug kills the child, the crime is quite serious. This is the first question.
There will be many small flying insects in the bathroom or toilet, which can't be driven away. Taking a shower or going to the bathroom can't avoid killing a few. Here's the thing. The first point is hygiene. If we do a good job in sanitation, there will be fewer bugs. If you don't do hygiene, it will inevitably lead to bugs. But sometimes you may notice that there are still some bugs. Then you'd better try to avoid it. You can fish it out. No problem. So many, you'd better change a toilet, a toilet. This can be avoided, not to say that it cannot be avoided.
If it is inevitable, for example, sometimes when driving, it will kill many flying insects in the window. This is inevitable, and we still have to be ashamed at this time. So be sure to repent every day!
There are some people who have just learned Buddhism or have a poor foundation in Buddhism. He always tells people that I am a good person, and I never want to hurt anyone. I never want to do anything bad. I just think of others wholeheartedly ... this is a beginner or a person without shame. If he is really well trained, this will not be the case.
What do you mean, no shame? Take care of yourself, but not others-this is shameless. Let's compare ourselves and see if we are such shameless people. What is really shameless is that it is a villain. A gentleman is ashamed, but a villain is shameless.
We try our best to avoid it, and if we can't avoid it, of course we have to repent. Try to avoid what can be avoided. Killing people is very serious! It is better to say this every day.
I am ashamed to ask a professional question about precepts. Actually, I'm not particularly good at it. My answer is for your reference. Tian Hong, a teacher in our liberal arts class, listened carefully when talking about killing. This is really subtle. Amitabha, this question should come back here.
