Brief introduction of Jiukong Bridge

From the tenth year of Hongzhi in Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1497) to the day after the founding of the People's Republic of China (KLOC-0/950), the old city has been the administrative seat of shenqiu county, with the east-west Chunjiang River in the south. At that time, the river was wide and deep, and all kinds of goods could go up the Luohe River, release Linquan and Yingzhou (now Fuyang City), and then go from Yingshang to Zhengyang and enter the Huaihe River. At that time, it was a complicated river However, there is no bridge in the south of the city, and a large number of people travel between the north and the south, and goods are transported by ship. Accidents happen every year because of the large water, large people, overloaded goods or rough waves. One day in the summer of the 11th year of Jiaqing in Qing Dynasty (1807), a boat went to the middle of Nanquan River in the old city, and suddenly a strong wind blew. The people on board staggered, the hull lost its balance and capsized instantly, and the people on board fell into the river. In desperation, the old ferryman grabbed a child 12 years old and swam ashore. Sadly, except for the old ferryman and children, everyone on this ship survived. The rescued child's name is Li Xianting (word Jingli), a native of Suzhou, fifteen miles southwest of the county seat. In order to thank the old ferryman for saving his life, he was worshipped as godfather. When Li Xianting saw dozens of bodies salvaged from the river, he thought that there was a boat full of people laughing just now, and then he turned into a corpse lying flat on the river bank. His heart ached like a knife, and his young mind was greatly shaken. He knelt on the ground sadly and made a big wish: God bless me. If I make a fortune in my life, I must build a bridge here so that pedestrians will not despair because of capsizing. With the passage of time, when Li Xianting grew up, he really made a fortune in business. He bought hundreds of hectares of land. There are many businesses there, all of which are very prosperous. It can be said that he is improving every day. Gradually, he became a famous monopoly in Suzhou and Li area, but he completely forgot his ambition.

However, at the mouth of Quanhe River in the south of the city, capsizing and drowning accidents still occur every year. According to legend, the person who was drowned by the river became a water ghost, and another person had to be drowned as a scapegoat to change the tire, so accidents continued every year. In order to take refuge and avoid death, I don't know when residents on both sides of the strait will hold ghost lanterns every year, saying that if they are put on, water ghosts will float away with them, so that they will not cause harm to people. But turning on the light every year, drowning accidents still happen as usual every year. Every time I heard that someone capsized and drowned, Li Xianting felt as uncomfortable as a knife. Over the years, he has traveled all over the country to do business and put aside his ambitions, for which he often feels guilty.
