Gaozhou City was originally called Maoming County and Gaozhou County1, which evolved from the Gaozhou Prefecture (Road) governing Maoming County in the Yuan Dynasty; and the place name "Gaozhou" evolved from "Gaoliang". Before the Sui Dynasty, the seat of Gaoliang County was the present-day Enping and Yangjiang areas; since the Sui and Tang Dynasties, it gradually developed to the west, and the political center also moved to today's Gaozhou; in the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, roads, roads, prefectures, and county seats were all Set up in Maoming County (today's Gaozhou City), Maoming County has become the political, economic and cultural center of western Guangdong. During the Republic of China, the government was removed and counties were left behind. Maoming County has successively belonged to Gaoleidao, Nanlu Administrative District, Seventh Administrative District, and Thirteenth Administrative District of Guangdong Province. Shortly after the founding of the People's Republic of China, Maoming City was established, and most of the remaining areas of Maoming County and Xinyi County were changed to Gaozhou County (later separated from Xinyi); in 1993, the county was removed and a county-level city was established, which was named Gaozhou city. 12 Gaozhou City is a famous historical and cultural city in Guangdong Province, the birthplace of the important thought of "Three Represents", "the hometown of Chinese national folk art (puppet)" (Gaozhou Puppet Show was named among the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage), " Chinese Couplet Cultural City". It is rich in the three famous fruits of Lingnan - banana, longan and lychee, and is known as "the first county (city) in fruit in the country". 34 (Note: There are two concepts about Gaozhou, one refers to the current Gaozhou City, and the other refers to Gaozhou Prefecture.
