In order to promote the further development of machinery and establish more sophisticated and advanced machinery, in 186 1 year, although Zeng Guofan once set up an ordnance factory in Anqing to make bombs, Anqing ordnance factory did not copy western weapons successfully because of its outdated concept. Later, at Rong Hong's suggestion, Zeng Guofan suggested that the newly-built machine factory was weak in national strength and underdeveloped in technology, and it was not suitable for manufacturing new machines. First of all, we should aim at ordinary machinery. Only by establishing basic production capacity can we promote the establishment of high-end machinery. In short, only with basic industries can we pursue high precision. Therefore, the idea of making tools became the key work of those who advocated the New Deal at that time. 1In June, 865, Li Hongzhang bought an American-run flag iron factory, which can build large and small ships and fireworks. In September of the same year, the Seventh Machinery Works was reorganized and merged with Songjiang Western Artillery Bureau hosted by Han Dianjia and Shanghai Foreign Artillery Bureau hosted by Ding Richang to form Jiangnan Manufacturing General Administration. It became an arsenal with the largest scale, the most modern equipment, the most variety of products, the best quality and the fastest manufacturing speed run by the Westernization School at that time. 1867, under the impetus of Li Hongzhang, the second part of the tariff was used as the basic fund for the development of shipbuilding industry, and more than 70 mu of land was purchased in the south of Shanghai for the establishment of a shipyard. In August of that year, the first self-built ship in China was manufactured and named as the celestial pole wheel. Driven by Li Hongzhang and other westernization figures, the westernization movement blossomed in the military and economic aspects. Source: Modern Vocational Education
