Because of his profound knowledge, noble morality and high reputation, he was highly valued by Tang Dezong, and was promoted to Dr. Suggestion. In the 11th year of Zhenyuan, Dai Lu and others wrote a letter due to difficulties in border defense, and the result was framed by Pei Yanling. Tang Dezong was furious and wanted to kill Dai Lou and others. No one in the imperial court caught up with the suggestion. Only Yangcheng wrote a letter with death, urging Pei Yanling's treachery and fault, which saved Dai Lu and others from death. Later, Tang Dezong wanted Pei Yanling to be the prime minister. When Yangcheng heard about it, he wrote a letter against it, listing Pei Yanling's crimes. Tang Dezong believed that Yangcheng was slandered, not only did he not listen to advice, but also demoted it as a national industry and later as a secretariat of Daozhou.
Yangcheng did a lot of good for the local people during his tenure as the secretariat of Daozhou, so he was loved by the people of Daozhou, and his achievements were told for thousands of years. . One of the most commendable stories is that he is not afraid of power and does not pay tribute to dwarfs.
Tang Dezong was dissolute and lustful, and liked dwarfs, so he ordered all localities to pay tribute to the court. Yang Gong County, later Daozhou, paid tribute to a dwarf named Wang Yi. Wang Yi was not tall since he was a child. Even as an adult, he is less than three feet tall. Although Wang Yi is not tall, he is quick-witted and articulate, and he can sing minor songs to make people happy, which won Tang Dezong's love. Therefore, Tang Dezong ordered Yang Gongjun to present a dwarf to the court every year. In this way, paying tribute to dwarfs in Yang Gong County has become a continuous system. In the Tang Dynasty, Yang Gong County was changed to Daozhou, but the system of attacking dwarfs remained unchanged.
There are no dwarfs in Daozhou, and local men are short. In order to please the emperor and at the same time under the pressure of superiors, all officials in Daozhou tried their best to search for dwarfs everywhere. After all, dwarfs are limited and officials make them. They put young children robbed from poor families or bought at extremely low prices in narrow clay pots, with only their heads exposed. In this way, they suppressed the growth of children and created one dwarf after another to pay tribute to the court. This immoral practice cast a shadow over the peaceful life of the local people.
After being demoted to Daozhou, Yangcheng heard of this appalling practice and was determined to eradicate this bad habit. Whenever the superior asked Daozhou to offer dwarfs, Yangcheng refused to pay tribute. Tang Dezong repeatedly ordered reprimands, and Yangcheng argued every time, and wrote: "The national law stipulates that tribute to local things cannot be forced to pay tribute to non-local things. This place in Daozhou does not produce dwarfs, only a very small number of dwarfs, and should not pay tribute. " In the end, the imperial court had to abolish the system of imperial edict paying tribute to dwarfs.
Daozhou people cheered when they learned about it. In order to be grateful for the blessing of Yangcheng and avenge the people, Daozhou people built temples to worship him and respect him as a blessing god. Later, people from other places followed suit.
It is said that Yangcheng's birthday is on the Lantern Festival, that is, the Lantern Festival, so on this day, people all over the country will celebrate its birthday-there are all kinds of lantern viewing activities, garden parties and praying Dojo, and every family that contributes to the family will hold "lighting" activities when they worship their ancestors.
