Why are the heads on coins mostly in profile?

There are several main reasons why most of the heads on silver coins are in profile:

1. Due to the technical difficulties in metal engraving, the space available for painting on the coins is small. The lack of fineness makes it difficult for people to draw a highly recognizable frontal portrait on the coin.

2. Drawing a side portrait on the coin is easier to achieve than a frontal portrait. The side relief portrait is more three-dimensional and the subject can be easily recognized. It's much easier.

3. With the circulation of coins, the delicate details on the portrait will soon be worn away, and the details on the side are relatively more difficult to be worn away.
