What is the meaning of "four spirits" in Feng Shui?

The four spirits are the four mythical beasts. People in ancient China believed that the Four Elephants had the functions of warding off evil spirits, avoiding disasters and praying for blessings, also known as the Four Spirits of Heaven.

The four gods, Qinglong, Baihu, Suzaku and Xuanwu, actually originated from the worship of ancient stars. At present, there is no conclusion about their origin. If we look at the cultural relics, the lacquer box of the tomb of Zeng Houyi of the Warring States period unearthed in Sui County records the complete names of twenty-eight houses and four elephants for the first time, and the names of four elephants such as Suzaku are of course impressive.

However, the names of today's Siling Qinglong, Baihu, Suzaku and Xuanwu have appeared in the early Oracle Bone Inscriptions of Yin Shang Dynasty unearthed in Yin Ruins, but there is no complete 28 nights. Portraits of Qinglong and Baihu have been found in the tombs of Xishuipo 6500 years ago.
