Shunzhi cut his hair and never became a monk again.
"Shunzhi becoming a monk" is a big mystery in Qing Dynasty. The popular saying is that Shunzhi was depressed and became a monk because of the death of his beloved Princess Dong 'e. Later, Kangxi accompanied his mother to visit Wutai Mountain many times, and there was a saying that Shunzhi became a monk in Wutai Mountain and Kangxi came here to find his father. The author believes that Shunzhi did intend to become a monk in history and was shaved, but he failed to become a monk in the end.
It is indeed a fact that the Buddha is well governed.
Shunzhi was first influenced by Catholicism. In the eighth year of Shunzhi (165 1), Fan Wencheng, a university student, was introduced to Tang Ruowang, a Jesuit living in Beijing. Because of his profound knowledge, the missionary soon got the favor and admiration of the young monarch Shunzhi, and because the Empress Xiao Zhuang once recognized Tang Ruowang as his adoptive father, Shunzhi addressed Tang Ruowang as "Mafa", which means "Grandpa". Tang Ruowang used the opportunity of imparting knowledge to talk about government affairs and tried his best to instill Catholic teachings into Shunzhi, which influenced Shunzhi's character and thoughts to some extent.
In the 14th year of Shunzhi (1657), perhaps because of the encouragement and agitation of eunuchs, 20-year-old Shunzhi summoned Han Pucong, a Buddhist monk, became interested in Buddhism and gradually alienated from Catholicism. Naturally, the southern monks Yulin Xian, Yin Ding Xisen, Mu Chenyu and Xuan Shuigao were all called to Beijing to discuss the scriptures and Buddhism in the palace. Shunzhi also asked Yulin Xian to give him a dharma name "Xing Chi" and "Xing Chi Taoist". He called himself a disciple in front of Yulin Xian and other eminent monks to show his respect. Shunzhi has close contacts with monks and nuns, is respectful and courteous, and widely buys Buddha statues. It can be said that he believes in Buddhism and is extremely devout.
Shunzhi did shave, but he didn't become a monk.
Due to the regency of Dourgen, Shunzhi endured the life of a puppet emperor for many years; Due to the disagreement with the queen, Shunzhi's marriage life had an unsatisfactory period and was once negative and world-weary. Dong 'e (Dong 'e is not Dong Xiaowan, a famous prostitute in Qinhuai, which has been confirmed by historians. The appearance of Shunzhi made him "madly in love" and aroused the waves of his life. Because of this, in the first month of the fifteenth year of Shunzhi, the only prince born to the beloved princess Dong 'e died prematurely. Two and a half years later, in August of the seventeenth year of Shunzhi, Princess Dong 'e also died suddenly, and Shunzhi was miserable, and finally she had the idea of escaping into an empty net. He ordered Indin Himsen to cut his hair and decided to become a monk. Fortunately, Yulin Xian came to Beijing and heard about it. He ordered someone to fetch firewood and burn his disciple, Indy Hessen. Coupled with sourdrang dowager's strong dissuasion, Shunzhi reluctantly agreed to restore hair and customs.
In this regard, it is advisable to extract several historical materials:
First, in the 19th year of Kangxi, Biography of Yulin said: Yulin You went to Beijing for the second time (in the 17th year of Shunzhi, he went to Beijing for the first time for fifteen years), and I heard that all his disciples shaved their hair, although many people gathered to burn their hair. As soon as I heard that, I promised to save my hair, and this is the end. "
Secondly, the Chronicle of Yulin said: "On October 15th, when I went to Wanshantang, Xiyuan, Huangcheng, sai-jo (Shunzhi) met Zhang Shi and smiled at each other." Shunzhi once again stated his desire to become a monk. At Yulin's urging, Shunzhi gave up. The so-called "smile at each other" is naturally due to a bald emperor and a bald monk, because although Shunzhi allows hair to grow, it seems ridiculous at this time.
Thirdly, there is a passage in Memoirs of Tang Ruowang: "From then on, the emperor entrusted himself to the hands of monks, and he personally cut off his hair. If his sensible mother and John hadn't stopped him, he would have become a monk long ago. "
Fourthly, in the inscription on the stupa carved in Yuanzhao Temple in Hangzhou during the Kangxi period, there is a poem printed by Ding Xisen, which reads: "I was kind to the old, and in sixty-four, I was stubborn in the plague, and I opened my mouth and cursed. I had nothing to worry about, so I'll clean it up now! " Miaomiao. People regard you as the Emperor of Qing Dynasty, and the temple says Zen, hehe! Always makes people laugh. "The word' degree' is obviously related to tonsure.
According to several historical data, during August and October of the seventeenth year of Shunzhi, the emperor shunzhi of Qing Dynasty decided to become a monk and shaved his hair, but failed to become a monk.
The cremation after Shunzhi's death also proved that he never became a monk.
On the seventh day of the first month in the eighteenth year of Shunzhi, the first Qing emperor in the Forbidden City, Shunzhi, died of smallpox in hall of mental cultivation, only half a year after Dong Fei's death. On the second day of February, Shunzhi Ziguan moved to Jingshan Shouhuang Hall. It was parked for 100 days, presided over by Yin Xisen, a monk closely related to Shunzhi, and burned and cremated in front of Shouhuang Temple on April 17. In May of the following year, the casket of Baogong in Shunzhi, escorted by the Minister of Fuzheng, was buried together with Baogong of Dong Fei (cremated on March 7 after Dong Fei's death) in Qing Xiaoling Mausoleum in Zunhua.
With regard to the cremation in Shunzhi, firstly, The Records of Qing Sheng recorded that on April 17th, the 18th year of Shunzhi, "Shang (referring to Kangxi) went to pay homage to the uterus of the first ancestor Zhang (namely Shunzhi) for one hundred days." On the seventh day of the first month of the first year of Kangxi, "to worship the ancestors in front of the Huangbao Palace, the ceremony was done." "In April of the second year of Kangxi, Xin You was sent to Xiaoling by the ancestor Bao Gong." Here, Kangxi worships Zigong and Bao Gong respectively, from which we can see that Bao Gong is not the original body of Zigong, but the ashes of the body after incineration. The so-called treasure palace is actually an urn.
Secondly, The Book of Five Lights quoted Yin Xisen's quotations, including the words "The Last Testament of the Ancestor called Taifu to hold a torch at the Shouhuang Hall in Jingshan", which means that Yin Xisen presided over cremation. He arrived in Beijing on April 6th, 2006. The Eleventh Quotations of India and a poem he wrote for Shunzhi at that time were: "Sakyamuni's nirvana, the harmony between man and heaven, the cremation of the first emperor, and further, the general?" Close the road in front of Shouhuang Temple. "
Third, Lu An's Monthly Drama Record also said that Shunzhi held a fire bath on April 17, and Lu An wrote a poem for this, with the sentence "Zi Gong Liang Kong".
It can be concluded that there is no doubt that Shunzhi was cremated after his death, which proves that he never became a monk. As for why only Shunzhi was cremated among the Qing emperors, it was because they had only been in the customs for more than ten years and still followed the old custom of cremation of ancestors in Manchu homeland, or because Shunzhi was a good Buddha and monks needed cremation after death, so the Qing court held a cremation funeral for the "Xing Chi" emperor, or both, for the time being.
