Function of threshold stone
Due to the different floor materials and time practices in different rooms, the floor thickness is different, resulting in height difference, and some materials are not easy to "close". For example, the floor of the living room or walkway is paved with a reinforced floor with a thickness of about 12~ 15 (8 thick floors and 5 thick mats), while the floor of the bathroom is paved with cement mortar thickness+tile thickness+groundwater slope thickness, which is much higher than the ground after completion. At the same time, the bathroom should also consider a small amount of normal water not to flow out to damage the floor, so "threshold stone" is one of the commonly used solutions.
It is generally suggested that the threshold stone should be slightly higher than the toilet floor by 5~ 10 mm, so as to slightly block the height of water flow. First, it's beautiful. Second, the less you stumble, the better. Third, the bathroom door is the highest point of the slope, and there should be little water. On the lower side, the threshold stone should not be more than 20 mm from the ground, which is similar to the above reason. First, it is beautiful; second, the less you stumble, the better; third, the thickness of standard stone is usually around 18~20. If the height difference is too high, you can choose to customize the thickened stone. Pay attention to whether there are old people or people with mobility difficulties at home.
Selection of threshold stone
Stone corners are generally "chamfered", that is, grinding a bevel edge, but also for beauty and convenience. It is suggested that granite be used as stone material, which is harder than marble and resistant to trampling. If one side of the ground (usually the outdoor side of the bathroom) has a stone floor mosaic or a stone floor rim, you can also use similar or the same material, which is more beautiful. Common cheap, strong and well-matched stones are China Black, Jinan black, Sanhe Red, etc.
Pay attention to the construction of threshold stone
In the installation, cement mortar is usually used to build the threshold stone. Because in the process of use, the threshold stone is trampled for a certain period of time, and cracks sometimes appear in the surrounding cement mortar. Therefore, it is suggested that when laying with cement mortar, leave a gap on the ground side of the bathroom, which is roughly controlled at about 5 mm wide. After filling with cement mortar, the surface is slightly concave, and then make a circle with building glue or silicone glue (the material for fixing sanitary ware). In this way, even if the cement mortar cracks and leaves the threshold stone, when there is water, it will not seep out from the gap. At the same time, you can also use building glue or silicone glue to punch holes in the joint between the wooden door cover and the lower part of the bathroom floor tile, so as to reduce the chance of discoloration and rot of the lower part of the door cover caused by water extending and infiltrating along the ground.
Cost problem of threshold stone
Threshold stone is often the most easily overlooked item in project cost. Because the door leaf is generally shown in the construction drawing and aligned with the wall, it is easy to ignore the threshold stone when compiling the cost according to the drawing. Even if there is no threshold stone, it is easy to ignore the area occupied by the door ring. Therefore, when we carry out the project cost of door leaves and door covers, we must pay attention to whether there are threshold stones, and if there are, we must compile them. If not, don't forget the floor area occupied by the knocker.
