Kangxi's story at the fork in the road
It is said that Emperor Kangxi visited Yulin privately and went to Sanchawan at noon one day. Sanchawan, located in the south of Yulin City, is a major traffic artery. Emperor Kangxi was so thirsty that he saw a watermelon seller by the roadside and went over. Emperor Kangxi asked the watermelon seller to choose a watermelon for him, without asking the price. The melon seller picked one of the melons at random and gave it to Emperor Kangxi. He took a knife on the handle of the watermelon, carved a small round mouth, and conveniently handed a copper spoon (spoon) to Emperor Kangxi. Emperor Kangxi dug and ate it. The melon seller watched Emperor Kangxi eat melons and asked him how they were. Emperor Kangxi said, "Good melon! Good melon! " Emperor Kangxi finished eating melons and asked the melon seller, "How much is this watermelon?" The melon seller said, "Not much! Not much! Just fill this empty watermelon shell with money. " Emperor Kangxi said, "How can you sell melons like this?" The melon seller said, "Do you know what this place is? This is Sanchawan, the famous rice river. What is a watermelon selling a melon shell copper coin? " Emperor Kangxi had no choice but to put money into the watermelon shell. When he left, Emperor Kangxi said, "People in Lujiashan need one or two silvers to drink a bowl of water, and people in Sanchawan need a melon skin to eat a watermelon. You road killers are disgusting. I want you Sanchawan people to give you two grains and two grasses. " I saw the melon seller giggle and say, "My guest, your words are too big. You are not the emperor now. Besides, we are not afraid to fight for gold at sunrise and silver at night in Sancha Bay. " Emperor Kangxi stood up and left without saying anything. Later, when Emperor Kangxi returned to Beijing, he issued an imperial decree that Sancha Bay should produce double grain and grass, and people realized that the person who ate watermelon that day was Emperor Kangxi.
