Where does Maoshengshiju belong?

Maoshengshiju is a cultural relic protection unit in Guangdong Province.

Maosheng Shiju is located on Maosheng Road, Henggang Street, Shenzhen City. It is a typical Hakka enclosed house. It is a unique Hakka building that integrates multiple functions. It is one of the five major residential buildings in China. Maoshengshiju is a provincial cultural relic protection unit in Guangdong Province.

The ancient Hakka enclosed house was built during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty and has a history of more than 190 years. It is currently the most complete preserved large-scale ancient Hakka residential building in Shenzhen and is a cultural relic protection unit at the provincial level in Guangdong. The houses in the enclosed houses basically maintain their original appearance, and the moon pool in front of the enclosure and the Feng Shui forest behind the enclosure are also completely preserved, which is rare among the existing enclosed houses in Shenzhen.

Maosheng Shiju is a rectangular walled city-style building with a width of 83 meters and a length of 73 meters. The building covers an area of ??6,200 square meters. The surrounding walls are 7 meters high and 70 centimeters thick. The walls are made of Sanhe soil mixed with brown sugar glutinous rice porridge and are extremely hard. The wall is dotted with bullet holes, and watchtowers are set up at the four corners to look out for each other. It has a defensive function and reflects the Hakka people's migration through the ages and the difficulties of establishing a foothold in a foreign land, as well as the awareness of prevention they have cultivated.

The entire building layout of Maoshengshiju is rigorous and grand. The towers at the four corners of the enclosed house are of the same shape, with cornices to create momentum. There are eight prongs pointing straight into the sky at the top of the roof, giving it a majestic appearance. Entering through the main entrance, there are two courtyards at the front and back, and four entrances from the left and right; the surrounding houses reflect towards the center, and a cluster of clan ancestral halls surrounds the center, reflecting the unity of the family and the strictness of the patriarchal clan. In addition to the main door, the outer door of the enclosed house has a side door on the left and right. It is said that "when the door is opened, there are hundreds of families, but when the door is closed, there is one family".

The Hakka enclosed house has the layout of "nine halls, eighteen wells, and four corners of the horse-drawn building", and Maoshengshiju belongs to this type. The architectural style of Maoshengshiju is mixed with European-style components and units, which is different from the purity of other Hakka residential buildings, which makes it unique. This is a sign of being located on the coast and receiving the influence of maritime culture, and also reflects the Hakka people's ability to tolerate and accept different cultures.

Maoshengshiju is built facing the southwest. In front of the house there is a half-moon-shaped pond of more than 300 square meters, which looks like a full bow with arrows on the string. It is said that there used to be dozens of acres of lush forest behind the house, with towering ancient trees; unfortunately, it has now been reduced to a small park, but it is still lush with trees.

Maoshengshiju provides a precious cultural heritage for the world to understand the living culture of ancient Hakka residences that pay attention to geography and feng shui, as well as the overall style of Hakka residence architecture.

On July 17, 2002, it was included in the fourth batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units.
