Zenggong Temple is located at No.8 Jiutiao Lane, Qinhuai District, Nanjing, facing south, between Zhongshan South Road and Hongwu Road. After a hundred years of wind and rain changes, the present Zenggong Temple is the North Campus of Nanjing Zhongying Middle School, as the administrative office area of the school.
The east and west sides of Zenggong Temple are the residences of Zeng descendants. Especially on both sides, there are gardens in the backyard, and the rockery pond architecture in the garden is very interesting. Unfortunately, after the Japanese occupation of Nanjing, this part of the building was changed into a funeral home. Now it is a part of the color printing factory, and the garden no longer exists.
1982, after Zenggong Temple was designated as a cultural relic protection unit in Nanjing, the government allocated funds for maintenance many times. The wings on both sides have been rebuilt in an antique style. Trees, flowers, rockeries and pools have been planted in the yard, making it a quiet and elegant garden-style campus.
Building structure
At the entrance of the first entrance, there is a eight-character carved brick archway more than ten meters high. The top of the "mountain" ridge is covered with tiles, and the brick arch is carved under the eaves, with exquisite craftsmanship. On both sides of the gate are two circular stone pillar arches, and the arc ticket gate is tall and spectacular. The second entrance is the main hall, and the last one is the main hall, all of which are five tall and spacious houses. The roof of the main hall is about ten meters high, and there are dragon patterns carved in the bucket arch. There are 30 round vermilion pillars in the main hall, which are magnificent.
Sanjin Sanzhai, 24 meters apart, forms two roughly square courtyards, and a passage is built in the courtyard with evergreen stone. There are square bricks on the floor of the hall. According to records, the large arrangement was originally used as the foundation under the square brick to prevent moisture. Two into three into the hall, the back hall was originally equipped with carved eaves, painted buildings, carved windows, floor-to-ceiling windows and doors. There are two cloisters and corridors in each courtyard. Today there are 48 vermilion pillars in the cloister.
Overall, the current site is 99 meters long and 5 1 meter wide, covering an area of 5,049 square meters and a construction area of 6,857.4 square meters, including 35 houses. The main building is a brick-wood structure with three entrances, which is divided into front, middle, back and two courtyards. It has a typical architectural style of Qing Dynasty.
