On the first floor, there is a three-dimensional hollow relief stone carving embedded in the main entrance, engraved with the words "Wenchang Tower". Inscriptions such as couplets and tower notes are embedded in the inner walls of other floors. Two to four floors away, there is an eight-way corridor surrounded by sand railings, engraved with the head of the tiger and the head of the tiger. The rest have waist eaves. On the edge of each floor, the platform is piled with horns, and a stone dragon is molded with a bell in its mouth. When the wind blows, it makes a tinkling sound, melodious and melodious, and spreads far away. There are six floors in the central hall of the tower, all of which are shrines. There is a gourd wheel at the top of the tower, which is made of iron and weighs 1 1 ton. The whole tower is arched with eaves and stone columns and tiles, which has a typical Ming style. Due to disrepair, the tower has tilted to the east. After the overhaul in 2002, it is in good condition at present. The central hall from the first floor to the sixth floor of the tower is dedicated to the six gods who dominate the literary movement or are related to the rise and fall of articles, namely Wenchang Emperor, Guanyin Bodhisattva, Taishang Laojun, Wencaishen, Guandijun and Kuixing. Therefore, it has been a holy place for local scholars or students at home to worship since ancient times. Wenchang Tower stands high on the high hill by the river. Every evening, when the sun rises in Zhao Hui and the moon sets in Yun Qi, you can see it from a distance, which is fascinating. The towering stone cliff where the tower is located is called "Wanjuan Cliff", because looking at this cliff from Xiangjiang River is like seeing a pile of books piled up into a high cliff. According to legend, a Feng Shui gentleman suggested that a tower should be built on the cliff of this book, so that the town of the tower could roll up, and Qiyang's style of writing would flourish and talents would flourish. What's more, in the left front of the tower, near the river, the center of a square boulder standing on it naturally sinks into a regular square pit, much like a huge inkstone, engraved with the words "Don't grind the inkstone" left by later generations. Therefore, there has always been a "Four Treasures of the Study" talked about by local people-Xiangjiang River is ink, boulder is inkstone, tower is pen, and book cliff is paper; Generation after generation, great articles emerge one after another. On the right front side of the tower, a rectangular boulder is engraved with four characters inscribed by calligraphers, which shows the heroic spirit of heaven and earth and the rich literary spirit. The trees beside the tower are lush, exquisite and handsome, and the rocks are handsome and tall, or interesting, which is a rare place to enjoy the cool and live. There is an ancient plum blossom cave hidden in the cliff under the tower. According to legend, the sage Deng Qiu studied Zhouyi in the cave, where he wrote books such as The Purpose of Neo-Confucianism.
Qiyang's ethos of advocating Chongwen and promoting education is very prosperous, and talents come forth in large numbers; In the imperial examination era, there were as many Jinshi in the county as 142 people. Since the tower was built, famous figures such as Shangshu, Governor Chen Jian of Hecao, Chen Dashou, Minister of Military Aircraft of Qing Dynasty, and Ouyang Lijian, a famous anti-French fighter, have emerged successively. In modern times, China's outstanding leaders, such as General Liu and General Zhou Yucheng, have emerged here.
