Which emperor was the most fatuous in the history of China?

Xiao Baojuan, Emperor of Qi in the Southern and Northern Dynasties.

The life of the character

Juvenile succession

Xiaobaojuan's biological mother Liu Huiduan (Xiao Luan's wife) died young and was raised by Pan Fei. When he was young, he didn't like reading, but he took pleasure in catching mice. Xiao Luan's eldest son Xiao could not succeed to the throne because of disability. In the first year of Jianwu (494), Xiao Baojuan was appointed Crown Prince.

On July 1st, the first year of Yongtai (1, September 498), Xiao Luan, Emperor of Qi Ming, died, and Prince Xiao Baojuan succeeded to the throne, becoming the sixth emperor in the Southern Dynasties. But he stuttered since he was a child and didn't like learning. He just plays around all day, often digging holes to catch mice with the guards in the East Palace and staying up all night. Xiao Luan doesn't care much about him, but he's worried that he's not scheming enough, and he won't be able to manage those uncles and brothers in the future. After Xiao Luan conspired to usurp the throne, in order to consolidate the throne, he killed the descendants of Emperor Gao and Emperor Wu, and wanted Xiao Baojuan to be punished when he died. The little emperor kept this in mind. After he ascended the throne, he carried it forward with some actions.

Ridiculous and cruel

In 499 AD, Xiao Baojuan made Pan Fei's niece Pan Yunv the imperial concubine. Xiao Baojuan is introverted, seldom speaks, dislikes contact with ministers, and often wanders outside the palace. Every time he went out, he had to tear down the house to expel the residents, build the immortal hall, the immortal hall and the jade longevity hall, and give a lot of rewards to his officials, which caused financial difficulties for the country.

Emperors in the Southern Dynasties were extravagant and decadent, especially Xiao Baojuan. After the harem was destroyed by fire, three luxurious palaces, Hua Xian, Shenxian and Yushou, were built. Xiao Baojuan is extremely stingy with money, and especially likes to be a butcher and a vendor. There used to be a market in the palace, where eunuchs killed pigs and sheep, and maids sold wine and meat. Pan Fei acts as the city order, and he acts as Pan Fei's deputy. In case of emergency, he will submit it to Pan Fei for adjudication.

When Xiao Baojuan was in office, he had to go out for more than 20 days in January, sometimes during the day and sometimes at night. "He went into the rich room to get something, and it was all gone." He doesn't want to be seen. Anyone who sees him will be killed. Therefore, local officials always attach importance to it. Every time they saw him leave the palace, they immediately rushed to expel the people, leaving no pedestrians on the road and laying down empty houses. For a time, "industry and commerce will be destroyed."

Completely isolated

Xiao Baojuan was instructed by her father, and the minister Zaifu was slightly dissatisfied. He immediately took punitive measures to force the civil servants to leave, the military commanders rebelled, and the capital was in jeopardy several times. Queen mother qi xuande reprimanded by imperial edict. Xiao Baojuan also killed many ministers. After he acceded to the throne, he successively killed Gu's right servant Jiang U, Si Kongxu Xiao Si, right general Xiao, leading general and others. Similarly, due to Xiao Baojuan's coma, Xiao Yaoguang, Qiu Edwin Lassier and Cui, the general of Pingxi, rebelled successively, but they were all defeated and killed.

Xiao Baojuan was even more confused after putting down the rebellion. In addition to dealing with the beloved princess Pan Yunv, courtier Mei Chonger and others day and night, he also sent someone to poison Xiao Yi, the most powerful minister who put down the rebellion. So, Xiao Yi's brother Xiao Yan sent troops to attack Jiankang, and fostered Xiao Baorong, the king of Nankang, as the emperor in Jiangling.

He rehearsed the army array in front of Huaguang Temple with his entourage and officials all day for fun, but he didn't care about the military forces outside the city. Liang Wang Xiao Yan's army has attacked outside the city. He heard the drums coming from outside the city, so he put on the Dahongpao and boarded the roof of Jingyang Building to watch the fun. The flow vector almost hurt his legs and feet. Wang Zhenguo, the general guarding the city, led his troops into the palace at night. My favorite Rufa really knelt on the ground and asked him to reward the soldiers, but he still refused. He also said, "Am I the only one who caught the thief? Why do you ask me for a reward? " On the night when Liang Wang and Qi jointly attacked Jiankang City, Xiao Baojuan sang a song in Hande Hall and enjoyed herself. Before I fell asleep, I heard the sound of the army breaking in and quickly slipped out of the north gate. Eunuch Huang Taiping raised a knife and cut his knee. He fell to the ground and scolded, "I'm going to rebel?" Another eunuch, Zhang Qi, cut off his head with a knife. After Xiao Yan came to power, he instructed Queen Xuande to cancel Xiao Baojuan's title as emperor. Xiao Baojuan was posthumously named king of Fuling, and soon he was named marquis of Donghu, but the mausoleum was still built according to the emperor's level.

Political measures

Xiao Baojuan treats people like dirt and doesn't know how to cherish civil and military ministers, so she often kills people. His cousin Jiang He was very kind to him. He held a grudge and killed them all. Sima Cao Hu, the town army, has money at home. Xiao Baojuan killed Cao Hu and swallowed his property. He also killed many ministers, such as Xiao Yaoguang and Xiao He, and even the emperor's uncle was not spared.

Xiao Baojuan's crazy indiscriminate killing aroused the fear of ministers. They fought back for safety. In November of the first year of Yongyuan (A.D. 499), Qi Taiwei Edwin Lassier set out from Xunyang (now Jiujiang, Jiangxi) and marched into quarrying (now the east bank of the Yangtze River in Maanshan, Anhui). In March of the following year, the then general Cui defected and joined forces with Jiangxia Wang Xiao Baoxuan, Xu Cishi and Yanzhou Cishi to surround Jiankang. Although Edwin Lassier and Cui were defeated and killed one after another, they caused a shock in the ruling and opposition circles. In November of this year, Xiao Yan, the secretariat of Yongzhou, and Lu Monk's cave led ten thousand people to attack Xiangyang (now Xiangfan, Hubei).

Faced with such a steep situation, Xiao Baojuan didn't know that the end was coming, but she still indulged in frolicking. Mei Chonger, another confidant of Ru Fazhen and Xiao Baojuan, slandered Xiao Baojuan and said: "If the minister does not try his best, the encirclement of the enemy will not be lifted. They should all be killed. " Xiao Baojuan listened to their words and prepared to raise the butcher's knife at the ministers again. Xiao Baojuan's stubbornness eventually led to the combination of internal and external opposition forces and accelerated his downfall.

Historical evaluation

Xiao Zixian: (1) Being in a daze in the East, crossing the river morally, saving the road and killing the bow can really bring peace. Pushing Yan Shu's name is also an act of god. (2) East faint slow road, Fang Xin Pidaiji. It's code, it's abandoning righteousness, it's playing with fire and burning ourselves to death.

Li yanshou: Dong Hun is called "Juan", and "Tibet" ends here. It is providence to sign first and then cover.

Zhou Tan: Decide who will help catch mice. Don't worry about Xiao Yan and Pan Fei. It's close to the knife, but I still cherish the money.

Cai Dongfan: Bao Juan is ignorant, and evil is invincible. Pan Guifei is the only one to blame. Either a woman or a country will perish; Cover the cup and confuse the Lord, and chaos will come.
