Dendrobium is the largest genus in Orchidaceae, including about 1500 species, mainly distributed in tropical Asia and Pacific islands. There are about 63 species of Dendrobium and 39 species of medicinal Dendrobium in China. Dendrobium plants are mostly epiphytes with unique growth environment and strict requirements on microclimate environment. Dendrobium plants are mostly found in cool and humid shady slopes and slightly acidic rock cliffs on semi-shady slopes, and are often distributed in groups. Generally speaking, areas with trees above and streams and ditches below are easier to see. They are slightly drought-tolerant in winter and spring, but when they are seriously short of water, their leaves often fall off, and bare stems survive in bad environments and germinate again in warm seasons. Dendrobium plants are often mixed with lichens, mosses, bauhinia, ferns, Selaginella and Bulbophylla.
