Southeast Asia (SEA) is located in the southeast of Asia, including Indochina Peninsula and Malay Archipelago. Indo-China Peninsula is named because it is located in the south of China, and the slender part in the south is called Malay Peninsula. Malay Archipelago is the largest archipelago in the world, scattered in the vast sea area between the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. It has more than 20,000 islands, covering an area of about 2.43 million square kilometers, belonging to Indonesia, Malaysia, East Timor, Brunei and the Philippines.

Laos is the only landlocked country in Southeast Asia, with Viet Nam, Laos and Myanmar bordering People's Republic of China (PRC). Only East Timor is not a member of ASEAN.
