Why is Qi Jinggong crying in Niu Shan?

He ascended the throne in 548 BC and died in 490 BC. * * * reigned for 58 years and was one of the monarchs who reigned for a long time in the history of Qi. However, in his later years, he still often lamented that life was short, and he often felt dejected, feeling that he was old and would soon die and lose his luster. On one occasion, Qi Jinggong led several ministers and entourage to visit Niu Shan in the south of Qi. When Qi Jinggong and others climbed to the top of Niu Shan and looked north, they saw pavilions and temples in Linzi city, and the surging river ran northward. In the face of this great river, it should be pleasing to the eye, but Qi Jinggong suddenly felt sad and couldn't help crying. While crying, he said to his entourage, "Do I want to be like the surging river in the north?" Attendants Ai Kong and Liang Qiu, according to others, cried together when they saw Qi Jinggong crying, but Yan Ying smiled when she saw this. At this moment, Qi Jinggong wiped her tears and asked Yan Ying, "I felt very uncomfortable when I went out today. Aiken and Liang Qiu both cried with me, and only you stood by and laughed. Why? " Yan Ying saw that Qi Jinggong blamed himself and explained unhurriedly: "If this great river and mountain is to be owned by the wise for a long time, it should be owned by Qi Taigong and Qi Huangong for a long time; If it should be owned by brave people for a long time, it should be owned by Qi He. If all previous monarchs have owned Qi for a long time, how did my monarch get the position of Qi monarch? It is precisely because our ancestors have owned Qi for generations, and then left from generation to generation, so now it is your turn to be a monarch. Only you are crying, because you are worried that you will never get it. This is so unkind. Now it is ridiculous to see an unkind monarch and two flattering courtiers crying together. "Thus, although Yan Ying is loyal to the monarch, he never agrees with the wrong words and deeds of the monarch, and never caters to the right and wrong of the monarch like some treacherous court officials. On another occasion, Qi Jinggong led Yan Ying and others to a highland south of Linzi. Qi Jinggong looked north at the capital of Qi and said, "I hope people don't die! "When Yan Ying saw and said these unrealistic words, he said to him," If people can never die, then the State of Qi is probably still owned by monarchs such as Qi, and Qi Huangong, Qi Xianggong, Qi Wengong and Qi Huangong are probably still assisting them in governing the country. How can I become a monarch? It is likely that he is wearing a hat, coarse clothes and squatting in the field with farm tools to do farm work. How can he get used to thinking about death? On another occasion, Qi Jinggong was a little drunk and suddenly said to Yan Ying, "If people can live a long life since ancient times, how happy it would be! Listening to Qi Jinggong's old tune, Yan Ying said to Qi Jinggong, "If all ancestors live long, it will be the happiness of their ancestors. This place in the state of Qi used to be the place where the double pigeon tribe lived. Later, Ji 'ou tribe, Fengbo Ling tribe and Pugu tribe lived there, until Jiang Taigong was later sealed off. If people have lived for a long time since ancient times, it is very likely that the people of Shuanggui tribe still occupy this land, which is definitely not what the monarch wants to see. After listening to Yingying's words, Qi Jinggong realized how naive and absurd it was to live forever and live on the throne for a long time. Later, he stopped talking about immortality, but he often worried that after his death, future generations could occupy Qi for a long time. So, Yan Ying took the opportunity to persuade Qi Jinggong to be lenient and love the people. Only in this way can we win the love and support of the people and realize that future generations will occupy the same place. Once, Qi Jinggong and Yan Ying were standing by the Zihe River watching the scenery. Suddenly, they sighed and said, "How wonderful it would be if we could enjoy the Qi for a long time and pass it on to our children and grandchildren! Yan Ying took the opportunity to say to Qi Jinggong, "I heard that a wise monarch can't be a monarch in vain, and ordinary people can't support him in vain. Now the monarch does not govern the country well, and has long been indifferent to the lives of ordinary people. It is also very difficult to occupy Qi for a long time. If we want to enjoy Qi for a long time, we must do good things for the people from beginning to end. Now is the time for vassal States to strive for hegemony. Only by implementing good governance from beginning to end can we win. Once upon a time, Qi Huangong, the monarch of Qi State, was able to appoint sages such as Guan Zhong and insisted on governing the country by virtue, so Qi State was able to maintain long-term stability, and all the people supported and praised him. Qi Huangong led troops to conquer those tyrannical people, and the soldiers didn't think it was a chore; Leading the ministers to appear before the Emperor Zhou, the ministers were willing to submit without complaint. However, in his later years, Qi Huangong indulged in excesses and appointed treacherous court officials such as Vertical Diao, which made the people suffer greatly and lost the support of the masses. So, when Qi Huangong died, nobody cared about his body, and a generation of heroes ended in tragedy. Now the monarch regards the people as enemies, plunders them indefinitely, and the country is getting more and more chaotic. Now I, Yan Ying, am too old to help you for a long time. Please do your best to govern the country and do more things that are beneficial to the people. Only in this way can your children and grandchildren enjoy qi for a long time. " Ying's words made Qi Jinggong feel ashamed. Later, on other occasions, Qi Jinggong showed concern about whether future generations could enjoy Qi for a long time. Yan Ying lost no time in persuading Qi Jinggong to do more good for the people. As a prime minister, Yan Ying devoted himself to his death. Ruan Ji, a poet in the Three Kingdoms period, once wrote a poem about Qi Jinggong Niu Shan's runny nose. The poem says: "If life is dust, heaven is infinite. Qi Jingsheng was promoted to Niu Shan to exchange ideas. An Zhiyuan, a poet in the Qing Dynasty, also wrote a poem describing this incident, which said, "In those days, there was only Niu Shan. A thousand years of monarch and minister, a moment of childlike innocence. In Liang Shi, the water is flowing fast, and spring scenery occupies the studio. At night, under the cattle and sheep, the song is still cut. " The author also has an appendix to this poem: "Gong Jing wept over his death, and the world was ridiculous and worried. "Xiang Yan suggested that Qin Jun should be diligent in governing the country and pay special attention to the people."
