Yi means easy, Jing means method (or classic). That is, the method of Yi (Book of Changes)
Explanation of the hexagram "Gui Mei" (the scientific and practical nature of Gui Mei)
1. About the myth of "The Foolish Old Man Moves the Mountain"
p>"Liezi·Tangwen" says: Taihang and Wangwu Mountains are originally located in the south of Hebei and the north of Heyang. The Foolish Old Man of Beishan led his descendants and neighbors, refuted the fallacy of Zhisou in Hequ, and moved mountains. Finally, he was moved by God and ordered Hercules to carry the two mountains away, helping Yu Gong solve the constraints of travel and development.
I believe that no atheist will recognize the existence of gods. So what message does this myth and legend convey to people? Obviously, while it refutes the ignorance and stubbornness of Hequ Zhisou, it also affirms the ignorance and persistence of Beishan Yugong who is full of pioneering spirit, and thus reveals to people the inevitable law of the development and progress of human society. So, what is this rule?
2. The interpretation and position of "The Doctrine of the Mean"
"The Doctrine of the Mean", the title of the Book of Rites, is said to have been written by Zisi. What is middle? The most popular way to say it is neither up nor down, neither left nor right, neither forward nor backward. What is mediocrity, mediocrity, means what you do is mediocre. It is said that mediocre people can do what they can and can do, so they call it mediocre words and mediocre actions. Mediocre people can do what they do, so what they do and say is mediocre. If there is a saying that "genius comes from diligence", then diligence is also something that only ordinary people can do, so it can also be said that "genius comes from mediocrity." Therefore, the meaning of mediocrity is to be average and mediocre.
It takes a mediocre person to make a mediocre journey. Because it is not mediocre, it can achieve success; because it is willing to be mediocre, it can understand.
"The Book of Changes·Qian·92 Classical Chinese" says, "Believe what is said, and be cautious in what is done." If you can believe in mediocre words, you can practice them if you can believe them. Practical yet cautious, this is "middle". In other words, what he did was very modest.
Confucius said, "A wise man can do better than a fool, but a fool cannot do as well as a wise man. A wise man can do better than a man who is unworthy." A wise man is too smart to do mediocre things, and he is willing to do mediocre things. Although a fool can do it (do it), he cannot finally break through the shackles of the dogma (miss the middle), so he cannot practice the true golden mean. Is this the reason why the Tao cannot be practiced?lt;/FONT>
The sage is trapped in dogma and loses in the middle (the sage goes too far - in the middle), while the unscrupulous can often achieve the middle, but You cannot settle for mediocrity, so you will definitely be out of reach. This is the reason why Tao cannot be understood in the world. (The great road seems to be unworthy, so unworthy people can often be moderate)
So, is this the mean? What is the more vivid essence of "The Doctrine of the Mean"? Let us look at the views of Confucius and ancient Chinese thinkers before Confucius.
3. "Gui Mei" in the Sixty-Four Hexagrams of "The Book of Changes"
"Gui Mei", according to the now well-known meaning, should refer to the woman returning to marry. Her husband's family. This is certainly true, but the meaning of "guimei" is not just that simple.
We know that physical differences between men and women lead to relatively different personalities, ways of thinking, and other aspects. This has also been confirmed by modern science and has gradually gained deeper understanding and research. The same ancient Chinese thinkers also realized this obvious problem and conducted in-depth research and analysis on it.
Our ancestors realized that in the process of understanding things, humans will always be restricted by their own factors. So how did this constraint arise? Obviously, it is due to human beings' own ignorance. Our ancestors called this ignorance "ignorance" (or defined it as "ignorance"). Human ignorance is human ignorance. Ignorance is the reason why human beings cannot understand things and the laws of their development. (Ignorance means the Dao is unclear)
Under the same objective conditions, in the process of human understanding of things, although both men and women are subject to their own ignorance, due to personality and Differences in various aspects such as ways of thinking, women are relatively more restricted. In other words, women are more susceptible to their own ignorance. The same is true in the process of organizing and managing various production labor and handling various complex things.
Because women are actually more likely to be "ignorant" (stay in ignorance), so in the early patriarchal society of ancient my country, "ambiguous" gradually became synonymous with women.
But at the same time, because "ambiguity" is a common problem faced by all human beings (men also exist), our ancestors removed "日" and replaced it with "女" representing gender, creating "Mei". "Character. Used to represent women (more often young women).
Based on the above reasons, there is a saying that "mei" means "mei", or "mei" means "mei". It can be seen that in the early patriarchal society of ancient my country, "mei" and "ambiguity" were connected to a certain extent.
When a woman gets married, she belongs to her husband’s family. It will mean that she needs to give up some power and take on a new responsibility for this decision. But marriage between men and women is the fundamental law of the development of human society. If it is an ignorant decision because of its constraints on oneself, then human beings must return to ignorance and come out of it to create a new life for themselves.
Therefore, "returning to sister" is also "returning to ignorance". Return to mediocrity and ignorance in order to seek creation and development. Returning to ignorance and continuing to practice "ignorance" is because the joy in the center drives the external practice. People who can surrender themselves to ignorance and continue to practice it will subjectively possess the ability to use it to constantly correct the deviations and limitations of their own understanding, and ultimately break through the constraints of ignorance. (To be able to return from ignorance is not to be in the middle. This is the sign of great middle. Only those who can be in great middle are not limited to existing knowledge and can return to ignorance.)
4. Conclusion: " "The Foolish Old Man Moves Mountains", "The Doctrine of the Mean" and "Gui Mei" are three in one.
"Gui Mei" means "Gui Mei", which means returning to ignorance. The foolish old men in Beishan are not deceived by the wise old man in the bend of the river. They do not respect the wisdom of the wise old man in the bend of the river. They are willing to be ignorant and return to foolishness. His stupidity is enough to do it, and his middle level is enough to be harmonious, so he can go to Taihang and Wangwu Mountains.
The Foolish Old Man moves the mountains, and the heart is happy and happy to do so. To be happy internally and put it into practice externally is the way to return to ignorance. The mean is mediocre. Those who are mediocre will inevitably be ignorant, and those who are content with mediocrity and can maintain the middle will inevitably fall into ignorance. Therefore, the golden mean is the way to return to ignorance.
Confucius said, "Returning to ignorance is the great righteousness of heaven and earth." Great righteousness is the law that must be followed for the development of things. Laozi said, "Man follows the earth, earth follows heaven, and heaven follows Tao. Tao follows nature." From this point of view, the righteousness of heaven and earth is also the righteousness of human beings. Then returning to my sister is also the righteousness of a person. Then, according to Confucius, moving from ignorance to civilization is the fundamental law of the development of human society! ! !
