The Story of Yang Guifei and Yangjiazhuang —— (1) Place Names

Because I grew up in this village, I have always been curious. Since most people in the village are surnamed Liu, why is it called Yangjiazhuang? Is it because of Yang Guifei? When I was a child, I often heard from the older generation that Yang Guifei was from a small village called Yoxi, which was less than two miles south of Yangjiazhuang. Everyone in the dialect says so, but the village card is Yangfei Village, so there should be many wonderful stories.

Grandma said it was called Josie because she could not be called Yang Fei because she avoided Yang Fei's taboo, so it was commonly known as Josie, and several surrounding villages also followed this tradition. Yangjiazhuang, for example, is called Yuejiazhuang in dialect. Yossi is also called because Yangfei Village was originally composed of four villages, namely Dongyangfei, Xiyangfei, Nanyangfei and Beiyangfei. However, due to the changeable world, natural and man-made disasters and many other reasons, the three villages in the east, south and north have been ruined and deserted. The village where Yang Guifei was born was Xiyangfei, so Yang Fei had an individual name called Josie very early, and this name has been followed up to now.

The beautiful legend of Yang Guifei before she entered the palace is still circulating in Yangjiazhuang. Yang Guifei was born in Yangfei Village, and Yangjiazhuang faces the beautiful Sushui River in the north. With fertile land and talented people, it is a rare land of geomantic omen. To the south of Sushui River is Maying Village, which is said to be the place where the imperial concubine raises horses. Further north, the two small villages are called Xiaoyang and Dayang respectively, which are the locations of the legendary big uncle and little uncle of Yuhuan, and there is also a road from Yangjiazhuang to Xiaoyang Village, which is called Guifei Road. About three miles to the east, there are two villages, East Sanli and West Sanli, which mainly grow cotton and vegetables for the Yang family. Across the Jingxiao Bridge in the southwest is Jingxiao Village, where the imperial concubine's family played, and further southwest is Yangxie Village, which was the village of Yue Xie (reading xia) in the mouth of neighbors when they were young, and it was said to be a shortcut to Beijing at that time. Tamura, which is close to Yangfei Village, is also the place where I was born. It is said that it is a place dedicated to farming and grain production for the Yang family. Not for the name of Yang Guifei, these villages still exist today. Moreover, the old people passed on word of mouth from generation to generation, telling the children the legendary story about Yang Guifei.

In the southeast of Yangjiazhuang village, there is a high-lying field called Tai 'er, which is said to have been the place where the stage was built in the prosperous period of the Yang family. To the north of Tai 'er is a depression, which usually stores water and is the place where the family members take water for their lives. To the west of Taier, there is a road leading to Maying called Thousand Roads, which is the way of the imperial concubine. There is also an east-west road close to the south of Yang Fei, which has always been called the official road. This statement has been seen many times in Teacher Feng's prose. It is the only way for people to go to Xijing Chang 'an.

finally, let me reveal the mystery of why the Liu family lived in Yangjiazhuang! According to the existing "Surabaya Liu Family Tree" in the Wanli period of Ming Dynasty in the village, the Yang family came to this place many years earlier than the Liu family, and it lasted for a long time, at least in the Yuan, Song and Five Dynasties. It was only later that the Yang family declined, and most of the villagers became Liu's people. It was also proposed to change the name of the village, but it was opposed by the respected patriarch of the Liu family, who thought it was an act of deceiving others and could not be done. It is not conducive to neighborhood harmony, so it has been inherited to this day.
