Visit the Maling Drum Village and appreciate the Dong family customs

Guilin Maling Drum Village is located in Maling Town, Lipu County. Maling is named after the mountains surrounding the place where it lives.

The Maling drum villages are all wooden structures, with falcons and mao connected to each other, and are constructed using ancient methods. The Guzhai villages here are all built according to the terrain. They are well-proportioned, with mountains at the back and rivers at the bottom. They are surrounded by mountains and rivers, with beautiful scenery, hidden among green trees and red flowers.

There are many long-lived elderly people in Guzhai. When you arrive in Guzhai, you have to pass through the "Longevity Gate". There is a couplet on both sides of the door, "A few desires and a pure heart can prolong life, and a light vegetarian diet can prolong life." In addition to the Dong family's environment of beautiful mountains and clear waters and fresh air, they usually have few desires and eat vegetarian meals. Another secret to longevity is to work for many years and exercise their muscles and bones. The elderly are no exception.

According to Dong custom, the host will sing a "welcome song" to you and drink "Sai Zhaimen" wine.

Guests can only enter the village gate after drinking. However, we still need to learn a few common expressions of the Dong people to avoid making jokes.

For example, "Hello" is called "Yalai"; "Thank you" is said to be "sticky teeth". The tourist learned to speak a few words of Dong dialect, which made everyone burst into laughter.

Enter the village gate, you will see a small square with a large silver drum standing in the center and a tall wooden pillar next to it with several cow heads hanging on it. The bull head is the totem of the Dong people.

Along the promenade of the Dong Village, you can admire the jet-black hair of the old man,

Try making glutinous rice cakes, and see the Dong bamboo weaving,

Weaving and dyeing and silver jewelry making.

After visiting the Maling Drum Village and driving back, it seemed as if the songs of the Dong people were still ringing in my ears, the mellow aroma of the ancient rice wine was still soft and long, and the frames of folk customs were still emerging in front of my eyes...
